failed smog at BAR ref.. .. why??
yep.. went back to the BAR ref. hoping i would pass after i got a valve adjustment and changed my cat. nope.. i measured higher than i ever have..i failed on 3 tests instead of 1...... F**K!!!
anyone have any ideas of what could be doing this.. i circled where i went over..
the top one is the idle and the bottom is the 2500 rpm test

its a 94 hatch w/ sir2 b16 and a usdm p30 from delsol vtec.. i passed the visual.. i'm just having trouble with the emissions now..
CO2= 14.2(idle) 14.4 (2500)
02= 0.0 (idle) 0.1 (2500)
HC=341 (idle) max = 100
HC=132 (2500) max = 130
CO=1.18 (idle) max = 1.00
CO=0.83 (2500) max = 1.00

looks like your running rich. usually o2 sensor is likely the cause. i would check to see if the o2 is working, switching from lean(0.1v) to rich(0.8v) with a volt meter or an a/f gauge. also, is the ecu stock(unchipped), i have seen chipped ecus causing the same problem. could also be high fuel pressure, coolant sensor, intake temp sensor, or map sensor but these are very unlikely. hope this helps and gl. oh, one more thing, are you trying to get a BAR label or did you get a ticket and got sent to REF? i only ask because i thought 94 civics with b16s are legal because del sols, which is a 2 seater version of a civic, came with b16s.
ok i'll try to explain it this way...
catalytic converters in honda civics...well 92-95 anyways(i only know because i own one and i had to do this thing on it)are a two phase(theres another word for it i just forgot)cat. one combines oxygen(02) with the carbon monoxide(c0) to make carbon dioxide(c02) so that might be your problem for having excess carbon monoxide and oxygen.
the second part of the catalytic converter kind of controls N0x.
and yeah you're running rich. back probe on your 02 sensor(white wire on a four wire 02 sensor) with a needle and a multimeter and read the voltage...if it jumps back and forth slow then you have a lazy 02 sensor and you should replace it.

how much did they charge you?

i got an oil change this morning and someone told me to put 2 tblspns of acetone with a half tank gas.. will this work..
I'm not sure if it works or not, but I used the stuff from autozone called GTP. Small orange bottle. Its Looks like those liquor bottle in the refrigerators of the nice hotels in Vegas. I used that and I ran my car for 30 minutes before the test. The ref said I should of use 91 instead of 87 octane, for cleaner burn. Some people here say you should use 87 octane. I barely passed, by one on the HC measurements. That's strange, your MAX HC numbers are different than mine.
what have you done to get it passed?

^^ are you meaning everything i had to change.. or just from yesterday to today.. all i did was get a new 02 and got an oil change this morning..
but if your wondering what all i had to do.. pm me...

Which REF did you go to? I ask cause the REF at Southwestern college in San Diego said "94-97 civics with b16s do not need a BAR label because Del Sols came with b16s." I'm just curious, thanks and congrats.
i went to the REF at BC Bakersfield College.. i had asked them that, because i heard that from someone.. they said it was false.. i dunno.. i passed.. thats all i care about right now..
Congrats on getting things situated. I just registered my car in a different state to get around that whole problem. The joy of some states that don't require emissions.

i'm not gonna do anything extreme.. i already have CTR cams, DC header.. K& N drop in.. i plan to do a complete rebuild soon and throw some type r pistons in and port/polish the head with an ITR intake mani.. and bore my TB.. not too sure if aftermarket valve springs and retainers are gonna be any better than the CTR's, but i may end up changing those also..
