Wiring help please
Im changing some of the wiring from the alarm thats on my car and i need to know what would be grounded when the car is off key out, but not grounded when the car is in so i can slice into it. tia
You mean powered, not grounded, the grounds are grounded all the time. If your tapping for power, just check the wires with a voltmeter when the ignition is turned to on and then again when off. If you want one for say a radar detector or light, then pick a wire that read 12v only when the ignition is on. Otherwise, you could drain your battery w/o realizing it.
its a visual deterance to go along with the alarm, it has three wires coming from it, to make it active for example you would have to have one wire (red) on the pos side of the battery and the black and yellow wires on the neg side, keep the red and black connected and remove the yellow it turns off, put the yellow wire to a chassis ground and it turns on. So i believe i need a switched ground dont i ?
Just connect the yellow wire to switched power coming off the ignition harness or the radio. When the key is off, it rests at ground, and when the key is on, it will read +12v. Those scanners are designed for that, so the +12v won't hurt it.
Sabastian, I hope this helps. http://www.designtech-intl.com/conte...il?modelID=625 or this one http://www.the12volt.com/request/94accord.asp
