I'm just wondering what kind of sandpaper you guys recommend??

Reason why is that i want to remove this ulgy paint job that the first owner did to it, he didnt finish the paint job so it have like 3 random colors.


oh yea where the tank filler door at, the owner shave the tank filler door to the body. So my question is how can i redo that tank filler door? I will post pixture of it.

Depends on how much of a job you want. I would sand it all down with 65 then 80 to bare metal then work your way back up. Thatll be the best way.

Its completely shaved? How do you fill the tank? For that you need to find out if they welded it shut or bondo it shut. If its bondo its undoable, just sand it down til you see bondo then break it up and clean that up. If its welded its damn near impossible without alot of custom work.

all you have to do is sand down the clear which i recommend using a DA with 320 or higher grit. make sure you get all the clear off. use your hand around the edges and cracks.

as far as the gas door. how do you pour gas in the car if the door is shaved?

i wouldnt recommend sanding it down to the metal. the skin is so thin that the heat will make it flex and warp which would cost you more time and labor. sanding the clear will do just fine. then lay the fresh coat over.

if you insist on getting it to bare, find a place thatll sand/bead blast it. much quicker.

 

speaking from experience i wouldnt start with anything less than 200. i started with 120 and my car is all scratched up. i did this as it was reccomended by a body shop . i also wet sanded with i think 320 or 400 and there were still scratches that could be seen. good luck

 

320 will do without noticeable scratches. go higher after 320. the finer the grit the smoother the surface will get.

 

he relocated to the driver tailight. so you have to remove the taillight to put gas in it. I was wtf i want the stock looking back.

You have to unscrew the taillight everytime you want to fuel up? What was this deucshe thinking?

he was probably thinking he wanted to build a show car....

I don't know how far he got though...

I always thought you wet sanded with 1000 grit or higher!

 

so i get the 320 and keeping moving up??

 

if you want to remove paint and go back to steel or atleast some sort of base start with 100. then 320, 500 100, and 1200 or 1500. thats what i always do!

 

so it 100, 320, 500, 1100, 1200, 1500...
