Default Tinking, crackling, chattering noise from my B16A..Help

I believe my valves need to be adjusted/timed. I hear a crackling/tinking noise coming from my engine when it idles and is under acceleration, pretty much any time. A mechanic mentioned my valves probably need to be adjusted/timed. Does this sound like a plausable cause to anyone?

Mike

If its a ticking noise, yes.

If not, seek help.

But as far as I know/ Witnessed, all DOHC VTEC B-series do have some valve noise.

Get under your car and have someone rev it. you don't necessarily have to be under it. get beside the left front tire and listen to your oil pan. if you hear it loud you may have a bad rod bearing/main bearing. good luck. i'm in the same situation.

the reason i think its my valves that need to be adjusted/timed is beacuse it also idles rough. i would imagine is my valves were out of time this would also be affected, along with the overall performance..

sounds like you need to have your valve clearances adjusted. if its idling rough, you may also have your cam timing off a little. get your clearances adjusted first though, if it fixes it, youre good, if not, then check your cam timing.

you still have a belt on your a/c compressor?? if so that tinkling/crackling noise is most probably the compressor clutch. Generally when they go bad, the front hub of the clutch just breaks off and dangles in front and just sorta slaps around against the spinning pulley...
