yeah i checked local junk yards and was only able to find 1. $ 650 seems like alot to take a chance on a used tranny. What does it take to become a normal user?

Look around the classifieds for used ones when you're not a trial user (usually takes 2-3 weeks if you don't screw up.)

Pick one up and rebuild it. I think at my local dealership it was going to cost me around 350 for synchros for 1-3, which I think is the part of the transmission that usually craps out.

I've got a tranny from a d16y8 that I'm going to be getting rid of soon. It needs an input shaft bearing and other than that it drives like a dream machine. All synchros are perfect, absolutely no grinds what so ever. Only noise that comes from the tranny is the whirrrrrrrring sound of the input shaft bearing. I'll let it go for $100 plus freight shipping if you want it.
