Default Muffler on Stock Exhaust Question

I am looking for something relatively close to stock in low rpms, and louder than stock in high rpms. Considering that I am on a budget, I was told that Magnaflow is the way to go for this, is this correct?

Does anyone know what a magnaflow muffler would sound like on an ek with a stock d16y7 (SOHC non-VTEC) with a stock exhaust system? (stock cat, resonator and piping)?
(i.e. Deep? High? Rapsy? Same as stock? Loud? Tinny? etc.)

Thanks.

Do you really just want something that sounds fast? or something that will actually increase your cars performance. The way to go is catback

“Do you really just want something that sounds fast? or something that will actually increase your cars performance. The way to go is catback “
No money for a full catback right now.
Want something that sounds a bit “fast” if I am ripping it, but I don’t want to give myself a headache or drive around making a farting noises either.

“just for sound, magnaflow will be very quiet on stock exhaust system. but very very raspy if there is no cat”
How quiet on a stock system? Cause I want it pretty quiet, but is it so quiet that there is no point?

“buy a full catback, putting any muffler on stock piping is gunna sounds like ****, unless its another sotck muffler”
I am not looking to spend on a full catback yet, maybe buy a magnaflow muffler now and then use that later for a “custom” catback set-up later on, depending on the inlet that I end up getting.

Well, I am not sure 100% if that is the brand I should be going for and shipping might make it expensive, but I will keep it in mind, thanks.

Does anyone know if all magnaflow mufflers sound almost the same, or if some are different? I see there are oval ones, one with one outlet and ones with two outlets, any difference in sound?

And anyone know how it will sound on a stock exhaust?

i believe it was mentioned earlier, "any aftermarket muffler on a stock exhaust will sound like ****"

i have an ebay apexi n1 replica on my stock exhaust, i like it. sound ok, isn't really loud. also has a silencer if i don't want a "headache."

I have a Hayame axle-back on stock piping for a 1993 Si Sol and it sounds nice and deep with no rasp what so ever.

save you're money man, by welding on any kind of aftermarket muffler to stock piping will cause the exhaust to be raspy. This is due to the lack of flow the factory piping provides, and the muffler will amply this. The end result is not cool and you will not be making any additional hp. A really good option is Kteller, they can sell you a bolt up mandrel piping kit for like 250, and you can pick some nice quality mufflers. They also offer magnaflow resonators to help with pitch and sound.

I say SAVE!!!

I just did a magnaflow on my D16y7 yesterday and today...
I got a 22" resonator because it sounded raspy with my other resonator.
it's a 14" oval 18" long (total), 2.25" inlet both sides, and i have a 2.25" piping.
It's still pretty damn loud for my taste.

It does sound raspy without a new resonator.
I'm not too happy with it, but it sounded better then what i had, and it flows WAY BETTER
I don't know if it's suppose to get quiet after time.
