Default Need advice on JDM header...

I'm stuck. It's time for my header and wanted to get the DC Sports JDM 4-1 (I'd love to get an SMSP or Toda but the price isn't worth the few horses extra IMO) because I'm planning on getting some CTR pistons and Toda Spec Cs. I was told I would need a new test pipe that is shaped like a cone to bolt the 2.5 header on to my 2.25 exhaust. But doesn't that sort of defeat the purpose of getting a JDM header if it's basically going to bottleneck? What should I do?

1. Dish out the cash to get a 2.5 exhaust

2. Get the JDM header and the custom test pipe to connect it to my 2.25 exhaust

3. Just get the USDM DC Sports 4-1, it's not that much of a difference

First off, If you are getting Spec C's and highe compression that JDM 4-1 will choke you out of horsepower
and the USDM dc sports will DEFINETLY choke you out of horsepower

Vegeta on this board has spec b's and when he went from dc sports jdm to toda he gained 18whp midrange and 8whp top end....i think it's worth it

Didn't you read the Dyno Day post? The SMS header is going to **** all over either JDM header. If you're going to spend a shitload on your cams...you might as well go the whole nine yards and pick up a really sick exhaust system.

You can be cheap if you want...but don't be surprised if you dyno your car like that and don't break 200whp.

I don't think the SMS header is going to "****" All over the toda header IMHO, if you even see a gain over the toda I'd be surprised

when I say "either JDM header" I mean the headers he's discussing in his post - ie. DC JDM and JDM 4-1. I didn't even mention the Toda header...genius.

Actually I think he meant DC JDM 4-1 not jdm 4-1...
But either way..SMS or Toda are two great choices

go SMS. you have the benefit of him being pretty much local. I have heard awesome things about the way he treats customers too.

I guess you are asking what we would do if we were in your shoes. I would go SMS header and get a cat from him also. Test pipe smells like ***, especially when you are sitting at a light...if I were in your shoes, I wouldn't do it. Unless this is just a drag car that never sees the street.

I'd say purchase a Kakimoto R exhaust and a carsound cat or custom test pipe for when you install the 2.5inch collector header

You can get them both buddy.

Have you ever looked under your car? I am only saying this because it's not liek you choose between a test pipe and a 2.5 exhaust. A testpipe is usually 2.5 and then you get a cat back (or would you call it a test-pipe back here, oh well) that is 2.5 all the way back. There ya go, 2.5 exhaust system.

Huh?
I already have a custom test pipe connecting my header to my exhaust. I think you misunderstood. It's either get ANOTHER custom test pipe that will connect the 2.5 to the 2.25, OR just the 2.5 exhaust.

Anyone know where I can get some damn info on SMSP's exhaust system?

EDIT: Actually I'd have to get another custom test pipe even with the exhaust since the header would be longer than the stock one i have now.

I guess it depends on how you define FOREVER. A recently delivered B20VTEC header was ready almost 3 months to the day from when it was ordered. I've read where people wait that long for a Spoon, Toda and HyTech header. I don't take any money when the header is ordered but ask for a 50% deposit right before I start on the header with the balance due on delivery.

will there be an SMSP bolt on 2.5 exhaust coming out anytime soon?? Is there any performance difference with welding over a bolt-on system??

I just couldn't drive all the way to VA to get an exhaust welded on

I've recently tried another manufacturer of mufflers/resonators and built my own resonator and it still looks like the Magnaflow stuff comes out on top for performance and sound. Yes, I will have a cat back system but no eta right now.
