Default How To Clean A Fuel Tank?

Hey

I got a 92 Civic Hatchback Vx sitting for a year and so i want to put some time to fix it up...I'm just wondering is their a way to clean up the fuel tank? clean up all the rust inside the fuel tank...Please help me out i just search and their only 3 topic but it didnt answer my question. So yea

Rust? If theres any rust, you might as well get a new fuel tank. The undercoating should protect the fuel tank for a very long time. Unless somebody stripped it, there shouldn't be a need to clean it. However, check NAPA or something. They may have an additive for your fuel, kinda like injector cleaner, but I doubt it.

you can take the tank off and rinse it out but like he said if you got rust then buy a new tank

I would just run with it. After a month or something consider changing the fuel filter.

its plastic how does it rust? at least im pretty sure its plastic

anyway the only real way to clean it is to do whats called hot tanking. you need to remove the tank and bring it to a capable shop. usually radiator shops have the ability.

92-00 civics are steel tanks. 01+ civics are plastic.

I pretty sure it's made out of some sort of metallic alloy, definately not plastic.
