Default which tranny would you perfer?

between these 2 trannies which would be better over all for the quarter mile on a NA car

1) 97 JDM ITR tranny (LSD) with 98 spec 4.78 FD and 1st gear

or

2) b16a hydro (LSD) stock 1-5 gears with ATS 4.928 FD

opinions and comments welcome

tires are 22-8-13's M+H slicks
well right now its a stock b16a2 (160-170 hp) and I am reving up to 8500 rpms at the track and launching around 7500 rpms.

I am about to do a H22a with H2B kit.

I am currently running the 97 spec ITR tranny with 98 spec 4.78 FD and 1st gear.

why are you using slicks when you are all stock? 7500 seems kinda high to be launching at. hope your axles will hold

SOHC axles will hold a 7800 rpm launch on 100 shot on slicks, B's surely would be stronger

The key is to NOT have too much slick or to much clutch.

Something HAS to slip.......

Rubber grips the best when it is slipping (slip angle).......

without slicks I ran somewhere in the high 15's

I threw on some slicks, launched at 7500 rpms and cut a 1.8 60 foot and ran 13.80 at 97 mph.

Slicks are a must on the track regardless if your stock or not

Get's my vote . Although w/ the 22's you'll only be able to go 102mph in 4th (assuming an 8500 rpm rev limit). I'd run that tranny and get some 23's (you'll be able to go 107mph assuming the 8500 limit). Best of luck.

Phil
