91 Si cluster in 89?
So today I went and pulled off both clusters off the 89 and 91. Then I noticed that the 91 Cluster brackets wouldnt fit good with the 89 mounting points so I decided to use the 89 brackets and hold them on with only 2 screws instead of 4 so that worked good. But before I attached it in place I plugged in the 2 harnesses and the speedo cable. Then I turn the ignition on and the check engine light stayed on??? (But it wasnt on with my 89 cluster WHATSOEVER) The i turned the car on and the handbrake was down but the light was on and the engine light was still on?? even when I turned on the lights the highbeam light was also on but the highbeams werent on?????
Im just wondering if the wire pattern on the harness is slightly different and maybe thats why its messed up like that??? Anyone have any experienxe with this cause I really wanna put the 91-91 Si Cluster on my 89 Civic cause the 88-89 is very plain and flat

As you have stated, you can't use a 90-91 cluster in a 88-89 civic. The cluster can be re-pinned but I would suggest you just get a 89 si cluster.
You can make the 91 work in the 89 but the flasher switch is in a different location, you will have to use the metal brackets and cluster cover that came with the cluster. I don't know how to show you a thread, so I will bump it right after this. Sure wish there was a tutoral on how to bring up threads, post pics, a other things. Hope this helps, info on page 2 of bumped thread.
