Default Has anyone swapped in a REALLY COMFORTABLE seat to their ep3?

For the better part of two years I have loved my oem ep3 seats. However, since the first of this year I have been driving several hours everyday and my lower back is starting to absolutely kill me. I am trying to work out more and get in better shape and all that, but I may buy a some new seats, because I am just in pain everyday right now. Not to mention that the ep3 is one of those cars that you really notice every pot hole on the highway during a longer trip.

If anyone has any recommendations please allow for Fat *** Syndrome. Actually my *** is not that fat, but I am a pretty stout guy these days. Think defensive tackle, rectangle for a body with rectangles for arms and legs with a square head, no neck to speak of. I would probably stick with black seats, something that would look ok in an ep3 and I need something that will bolt right in, no special brackets being hand made or mods to the car or track. Let's also try to stay away from ultra-rare JDM seats with $4000 price tags, they are usually made for skinny guys anyway.

If anyone has any recommendations please give a post or a link. If you have first hand knowledge on how they do when you are on the road for a couple of hours a day PLEASE give your feedback.

Thanks!

hmm well just make sure any seat you find has the plugs for the airbags otherwise your srs light will go on and disable your airbags. You most likely will want something out of a newer acura like the rsx tsx ect,

hte entire airbag system is not disabled, only the side bags. there have been several rsx guys with no side bags and srs light on who crashed and front bags deployed.

I'm in the same boat as you, man. The lack of any lumbar support at all sucks. I'd like something a couple of inches lower too. my head is always rubbing on the headliner...

Exactly, more lumber support and a little lower.

just a few items...

i'm an industrial designer. i've got years under my belt designing automotive, office, and residential seating.

the ergonomics of the EP3 seats are pretty good. if you are having lower back trouble, and you are looking for a swap, you're going to really want to test the seats out for yourself, not take the word of another for it.

a few features to look for would be a height-adjustable lumbar, inflatable lumbar pillow, and maybe a knee-tilt/seat tilt adjustment.

i'm a big guy too, 6'0 245#. i started having back troubles and it was mainly from inactivity. i started walking a lot, doing a lot of situps (stonger abdominal muscles will help a LOT) and lower back stretches (i asked a physical therapist). do it everyday. it will help.

DON'T carry your wallet in you pocket when you sit.

If you have the option, get a GOOD office chair for work, if you sit a lot at work.

try readjusting you driving position. move your seat forward and recline the back a little more. compensate by tilting the steering wheel downward. it may make the instrument panel a little more difficult to see, but you'll readjust to judging your speed to where the needle position is.

if all else fails, keep a small hand towel in the car, one that fits between the bolsters when rolled up, and use it as a lumbar.

you could also alter the lumbar on the stock seats if you can fit one of these between the uphostery and the foam of your seat.

good luck!

i forgot to mention...

be more aware of your posture when you sit, and not just when you drive. don't lean to one side or the other, keep you shoulder blades on the seat. don't roll your shoulders forward or slouch. i know it can tough to be aware of this stuff, but balance in your seated position is really important to extended comfort.

if you're driving long distances, use your cruise control. this allows you to move your legs around more and can take the stress off your lower back.
