This sums up my problem
I had my trans rebuilt by a reputable shop here in MN back in Jan of this year. The problem is that when I got it back it was leaking from an axle seal on the driver side. It was also intermittently having problems with the 1-2 shift (shudders, snaping sounds during some 1-2 upshifts) and I took it back but they could never find the problem.
Forward to last week: I was driving home and while I was moving along in rush hour traffic, I noticed a distinct change in how the car was shifting between 1 and 2 and I smelled a buring smell like auto trans fluid. Since the shop was closed, I took it to them immediately the next day and you guessed it, they could not duplicate the problem.
Since I have a 1994 accord, I drive that around when I am not working as I use my '98 car for driving to work and back and road trips. so my car sat from last wdnesday when I got home from the trans shop until today (Easter Sunday)
Well today while driving to work, the shift between 1-2 has gotten to point where the car will jerk violently every 4th shift or so and if you accellerate WOT the car will hit fuel cut off and trans will not shift until you let off of the gas.
I had the car inspected by honda when they did the 90K service and they stated that all was well with the car (this was done after the trans was replaced so I don't believe that it was related to installation.
well lets see 3 trannies within 100K = average life of trans on this car is approximately 33Kmiles

such is a way of life for 6th gen accord owners. i would recomend trying to source a newer tranny, from an 01 or 02. i dont know if you have a v6 or an i4, but both trans really suck for the first few years of the 6th gen. i know the v6 tranny was a little better in 01-02, as they fix one of the main problems i think (one of the gears or shafts not getting lubricated properly)
6th gen auto trannies have to be one of the biggest mistakes Honda has made. Sorry to hear about yours taking another crap on ya.
Yeah the recall was for 2nd gear inspection. I have done a few of these. But I think that was on 03 and newer.
I talked to the Honda Dealership locally and they have already replaced 4-5 tranny's on the '04 V6 accord. 2 on one car alone. Not sure what problem but Honda is not known for a strong A/T.
Sorry to hear about your troubles

Yeah mine just went out to on my 98 accord. How much did it cost you to rebuild the tranny? I called a shop today and they suggested that I just buy a remanufactured one instead of rebuilding this one, what do yor think.

Ask them which solenoid? Torque converter Clutch Solenoid, Shift Solenoid or Clutch pressure control solenoid

OK, so they don't have to take the whole thing a part, means less spending for you. I am glad that, its a solenoid.
whatever it is from now on keep changing your tranny oil (keep it healthy)
all the best
