- California Laws regarding JDM Front End -
Hey guys, I did not look deep enough into this issue, and was wondering if any California guys knew what the answers were... I was curious as to what exactly is illegal about the JDM front end, as well as what the penalties are for the infractions... I heard that there is a $300+ fix-it ticket for the front end, but that it is one which can only be cited once.. I am looking for the absolute real answer and not what you guys "think" is correct.. If you are not 100% sure, then please don't respond.. Thanks!
i've heard that the violation has to do with the head light clearance from the ground...it's too low for dot standards...don't quote me on this.
i've driven in front of hundreds of cops and they've never given me a second look.. although i have gotten a fix-it ticket once, but the cop said it was just for "clear sidemarkers".. (JDM front does not have amber reflectors) this was over a year ago.
i got it signed off and paid the 10 bucks.. never had any legal trouble since then
just stay away from san jose because i hear the cops there know

How did you get the ticket signed off for not having amber reflectors? What did you do? I don't want to get a fuggin' ticket for my HIDs...

i was really cool with the campus cop at my old high school so i went back there and he was cool enough to sign it off for me.. unfortunately he's long gone now

They need amber reflectors... you can just get some stick on reflector tape and stick it to the side of the corner assembly to get it signed off.

i have had my jdm front end for about three months. I have the JDM OEM HID headlights too. I got pulled over once, but they did not give me a ticket. I live in San Francisco, so the cops are used to us already. I was driving behind the cop and the HID kept blingin him in the rear view and side view mirrors. So then he pulled me over and asked why my lights were all over the road. I just told him that the HID came stock on my car and then he let me go.
As far as legality....i'm not sure. All i know is that the reinforcement is about 1-inch by 1-inch, compared to the 4 by 4 reinforcement that the stock bumper has. So the jdm front is way more flimsy in a low speed accident, but it looks so damn sweet.

Well i dont know any of the legal issues, but i've had my front end for 3 years now, and have yet to be pulled over. Also i have the non-HID version. So chances are, you wont get pulled over but there is always that possibility.
Damn clear corner makers get you guys a fix it ticket!? Here they only care about rears...never say anything about fronts unless you use different colour bulb's other then amber.
As for lights they don't care either unless your driving on roads with your brights on. You can't really go out at night these days without seeing HID's on cars most which are OEM on Bimmers and Merc's and Porsches.

Yeah, just say you have an ACURA and it's high-end with HID's stock.....
Also, here we don't get tickets for anything... Clear EVERYTHING, tails, sidemarkers, turn signals, etc are all run by the ricers 24-7-365 and I have heard of NO tickets. I'm gonna run clears one weekend and roll everybody and their mama for fun.
