Default Since no one else has...NoVa dyno day cliff notes.

Thanks to Warren, a couple of us H-Ters heard about it, so we went to Curry Automotive in Ashburn for a dyno day. It was an interesting day...lots of typical import crowd there but definitely some serious cars. It was a Mustang dyno so we expected some low readings...not exactly. Some of these numbers are fudged since my memory is a little fuzzy, so I fully expect that the guys will chime in with their exact results.

Highlights:

*Warren hitting 180+whp in full race trim

*George Knighton hitting 177whp (highest NA # of the day)

*Luis (ISS-Elite-something or other) hitting 160whp but getting fastest simulated 1/4 mile time of the day at 14.0-something?

*An extremely beautiful girl in a TT Supra with 320whp.

*The Civic with cow-catcher bodykit and 400-lb driver hitting well over 300whp

My favorite line of the day...George gave me a ride home, and some hybrid-looking thing pulled up next to us...and George said (not directly to him since all windows were up) "Are you sure this a conversation you really want to have?" Priceless.

We also saw a belt fly off a supercharged Civic. that was fun.

My personal highlight was sitting in an immaculate '73 Porsche driven by one of the guys who works at Intersport. One stab of the gas pedal in neutral gave me evil, evil thoughts.

Luis had about the same modification level that I had.

Luis: AEM intake, JDM header, Thermal exhaust. 160 HP.

George: Comptech Icebox, JDM header, SMSP exhaust. 177 HP.

So, it's either the SMSP exhaust, or Corey's special turning. :D
Well don't forget he has 17's and you have 16's. Luis is running an "Adrian Teo Cat." I believe the SMS Car Sound Cat flows a little better. This is a small factor.

What i don't understand is what Luis told me for his TQ. Something like 140.xx???

Thanks,

Hey hey...Can u believe it. I actually did something good for the car hehehe. George was like "Holy Cow, Luis what are you doing here? " Okay here's my dyno results. Hit 160 HP to the wheels. I thought that was weak. Not sure how accurate that Mustang Dyno. But i did get a good 1/4 mile time of 14.01. Yes, George is correct. I sold my 17 Volk SE 37k's that morning of the event. Right now I'm running on 15" Slipstreams with KUMHO tires.

Ross it was nice meeting you in person. So can I have your Mugen Wing?
George...I think your SMSP exhaust is better than Thermal and you said about the valve adjustment and Corey's tuning expertise.

PS...I need some advice on what wheels to get. Any help is greatful.

After seeing a mostly Mugen'd R like yours, there's really only one choice for the wheels.

Can't have my wing...better get one quick since they might discontinue it soon.

Don't forget Every car's power output is different right off the bat. Your car might have had a good 10hp more than his Stock for stock. I believe Ross has about 173whp with just the icebox.

Oh yah I know Ross...I need to get the MF 10's since I've got most of it on my car. I'm negotiating with Saga and Unlimited I know I was just kidding about you giving me your wing.

I guess I'll let the cat out of the bag.

185.3

I dynoed on the very same dyno at almost the same temperature before SGT rebuilt my motor, and before I picked up the SMS header and race exhaust. I pulled a 158.x. That is with an 80k mile cat, and dented stock a-pipe.

Oh yeah, George, call up Curry's on Monday. You won $125. I don't count. Matt damn near gave me a set of Hoosiers earlier that morning.

TurboR616

"Turbo" doesn't count. Separate category.
Time for a name change?

You dyno that much, and still don't pull on me??

George is also forgetting his timming is set at +18 and when I did the valve adjustment, all were quite off, and I put them on the tightest specs (can't remember what).. Needless to say, the car felt MUCH better after I did the valve adjustment and timming..

Dyno meet was

That last civic hb towards the end was ghey - my friend and I nicknamed it Gold Dust (you know why if you saw it). Props on the motor but the paint color on the car, roll cage and all was just plain ghey.

You guys are lucky I promised a friend I'd go to the strip club with him or I would've dished out the $50 and embarrassed all.

I see that gold Civic outside my dorm all the time. I wasn't around to see what it dyno'd...how did it do? I don't even know what mods he has. You were at the dyno day? Which person were you?

Luis - I know you were just kidding about my wing.

Before today, the general consensus was that high-end specialty mufflers, headers, like SMS were better-suited to applications with crazy cams, etc, and that for everyone else, regular mass-produced bolt-ons would be fine. But George and Warren have clearly proven this to be not true.

A whopping 137 or so at the wheels. He said his timing was all messed up. He's got a prelude motor in there and I overheard one of his buddies tell someone it was rebuilt. Don't know the details on Gold Dust. I didn't show up until about 8pm - short spanish guy wearing a brown corduroy jacket w/blue jeans.

Are you serious...wow. He has to have more serious issues than timing if his whp was that low?

Too bad. it looks like a lot of effort was put into it.

Great job, George. Glad to see your previous numbers were not a fluke. That $125 can go stright to your Track Day Fund.

$125 is about what George spent at the strip club after the event...so he's just breaking even.

Oops, did I say strip club? I meant restaurant.

edit - it's a joke
