Default For all you guys with 88 Trannies. Little tip!!

While i was installing a 88 Si tranny onto my z6 block. I had a spare flywheel/clutch/pressure plate/throw bearing from a 86-89 Integra laying around. Brand new.

Checked everything over took some pics if people were intersted. The integra flywheel is different width (its actually lighter then EFs... i think ). I noticed the flywheel clutch contact surface is identical on the flywheel. So I looked it over. And sure enough they are identical. Flywheel as same number of teeth. Pressure plate aligns the same as the EF. Clutch are slightly different. First off the Integra is big compared to the EF. And i think there was another thing (nothing important). They have the same spline count.

The only thing that didn't match up is the Integras lack of a pilot bearing. I would think you could reuse the EF's but I had the integra one resurfaced so I put that in there with no pilot bearing made some ghetto measuremants and the input shaft doesn't touch anything.

It bolted up fine no problem at all. I will be taking it for a test drive hopefully soon but hooked up the clutch cable and it seemed to perform correctly.

88 EF clutches are tiny. With this setup you can have a better contact surface (meaning it'll grab a lot better)

Well hopefully some of you thought this was helpful figure I'd post up something i figured out today

Yet another option is to use a 1986-1989 Accord clutch disk with a 1988 transmission and 1990-1991 flywheel and pressure plate.

Digi-cam has no batteries left. After i took the last pic it died. So when I get some more batteries I'll post it up (probably tomorrow)

We did this to my kids 90 CRX last year when the tranny we picked up turned out to be an 88.

88 Si tranny
90-91 CRX Si flywheel
90-91 CRX Si pressure plate
88-89 Integra clutch disc

Still running great. This setup allows you to use the larger clutch with the 88 tranny.

without pilot bearing, the input shaft bearing on your transmission is going to go out in a real short amount of time
