what timing do I use on this minime

what timing do I use on this minime
my friend has a d15 eg cx block with a d16y8 head what base timing do I use
I know the block and crank markings are for 16 degrees, but a y8 is suspossed to be 12 degrees what do I go with
I have it at 16 right now but the idle is too low
