Anyone have LED bulbs in their stock tails and/or turn signals? How do they look? There's a bunch of styles, which ones do you use?

Tried to search but it's busted, sorry if this is a repeat.

bump, i'd like to know more about these also

 

actually a friend of mine has them, they are brighter but they look like a stock bulb through the lense. it's kinda cool because he has all reds but the led bulb is amber so his turn signals still light up bright amber. looks good, not ricey at all.

 

i have always used leds instead of regular bulbs. They last longer and look nicer. imo

 

i use LEDs all throughout my interior, they are definitely brighter! x10!!!

 

In reflectors they're not nearly as good as a standard bulb. Since the filament spreads light throughout the housing, it reflects and makes your brake lights much more apparent. LEDs are directional, so even if the bulb has LEDs in every direction, it wont be as bright as a halogen bulb in a halogen housing.

I have some as brake lights currently and I want to switch them out because you can't tell at all in the daylight. It's an accident waiting to happen.

 

actually bulbs are more reliable but LED's are brighter. super white/bluish is coo but anything else will get you pulled over

Some of the ones I posted have LEDs that point at the reflector as well as stright out, I bet those would be better than ones that just point straight out.

Not really...I have the ones that are multidirectional too and they're just awful in daylight. If you look at that pic there are none at a 45 degree or less angle facing rearward...which is key to reflector housings such as brake lights and front turn signals.

Believe me, I am planning to switch mine out and I spent 40+ bucks on mine, i'm just trying to save you money. If you're worried about appearances, I had chrome plated bulbs before and they worked like a charm for me...

 

Thanks, I think I'll wait until a better design comes out.

if you guys are interested i'm workign to become a distributor for a led light called the Spiderlite. This is by far the best styled one i've seen on the market. Here are some pics, two models: 5 arm and 3 arm

There's a bunch of threads on hidplanet.com concerning these. They use inferior low output LEDs plus they have NO other directional LED other than forward facing. They have godawful output and their quality is not good either. One member modified it by replacing each individual LED but I dont think that that would be worth it for anyone involved.

 

i have read those post. In the post, some people had problems some people didn't. i personally haven't found those problems but i will try to provide some input to the company for improvement of their product. They are a new company and new companies are bound to some pitfalls. but we can't deny that this is definately a good idea and concept which would be a very good product if all these issues are fixed.

 

do you have pics of what they look like on a car?

 

I used to have these on my EGG back in 99. When you throw them in your rear blinkers they make them blink spastic it's pretty cool. I think there pretty cool and bright as something that is pretty bright... like the sun.

That's because they require less electricity than halogen bulbs...they need load resistors to function correctly. They draw so little energy that the car thinks they are not there, therefore they blink very quickly.

 

im still wondering what size LED bulbs will fit in my gauge cluster so i can make it brighter
