anyone done k20z swap in 04 ep3....?
I installed k20z in ep3, using my same harness, and I have no speedo, cooling fan not working, and electronic power steering not working. Do I need to use Type S harness because I see that the wires and pins on connectors going to the ecu are arranged different. Right now currently using stock si ecu because of immobilizer issues...will kpro solve these problems. Also on the six speed tranny there is a sensor on shifter assembly and I dont have wires for it on my stock harness, what is that sensor for? Anyone who have done this swap...please help!
Putting the K20Z1 and K20Z3 into an EP3 is not as easy as it was putting the K20A(*) and K20A2 motors in. There are a myriad of small problems that cause a lot of people to shop for the DC5 ITR or USDM Type S (very cheap) motors instead of the newer motors.
Yes, the K Pro will solve all your tuning and immobilizer problems.
I will try to point one of our knowledgeable K motor people in your direction.

some answers
1.)your speedo is not working because the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) changed in '05+ K series... the output signal varies greatly. proposed solutions
a.) get a '05+ EP3 cluster <--- which might work --- I am not sure if honda changed the VSS signal in the k20a3 in '05
b.) get a VSS multiplier see https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=762288&page=15 bigcalidave got an s2000 cluster working by using one... you see the k20z1 & k20z3 use the same signal as the s2000
so you would just reverse the multiplier
& your '05 VSS signal would be converted to work with your '03 ep3 cluster
you cannot use an '02-'04 VSS in a '05+ tranny b/c the pickup is different & the mounting boss is different
2.)what radiator are you using... i believe the k20a2 has its fan switch located on the bottom of the radiator... what fan switch are you using & where is it?
3.)the k20z1 was does NOT have electric power steering... did you swap it over? I believe their is a separate control module for electrical power steering ... You would be the 1st probably to be the one to swap over the EPS....an easier way would be to use the k20z1 power steering or the easiest = no power steering
4.) I believe you should be using '05+ RSX-S (k20z1) harness...using the ep3 harness might help contribute to these issues... K-pro is great but for the k20z1 you need an adapter harness from hondata
5.) I believe that is the 6speed only reverse lockout (when in 5th shifting to 6th it locks out reverse)
edit i would not drive around with that swap using the stock k20a3 ecu
--they are 2 completely different motors
is the k20z1 drive by wire or is it just the k20z3 & k24a2?

I will check to see if that multiplier will work. I'm not sure where the fan switch is on the radiator, but I am using my stock radiator from 04 ep3...do you think it is just a fan switch gone bad (my vehicle only has 18k on it). So what I understand is that I should get kpro, and use the type S harness that came with motor. Do I send out my si ecu, or the ecu that came with the 06 type s. If I remeber right, Hondata could not do kpro conversion on 05/06 type s k20z ecu's. Thank you for all the information thus far.

nope... the hasport hareness you refer to is for 02-04 k20's not '05+

find out where your fan switch is...I said it was on the lower part of the rad on the RSX-S radiator - i don't know about the ep3 radiator
send out your EP3 ecu for hondata....I got my k-pro from norris prayoonto for $850 shipped & had it back in 3-4 days. you want to use the '05 z1 engine harness but I believe you will need a hondata adpater harness to use with the older ecu

thats odd...could be possible - i'da thought brian g would have made some sort of post on this....especially after the whole s2k cluster in other car thread.
my friend just did a k20z1 swap in his ek and had to get a 02 tranny to use then he found out abuot the conversion harness so im pretty sure they make it....hes a pretty reliable source used the hybrid racing harness and mounts came out pretty good

(No speedo) The VSS is different. The solution is to get a K-Pro that has the VSS signal conversion option.
(Cooling fan not working) Is it unplugged? Is the sensor in the radiator working? The engine swap shouldn't affect the fan's operation.
(Do I need to use Type S harness) No you can modify the Si harness using some parts off the K20Z harness. You will need to do some modifications like the VSS and reverse lock out.
(I see that the wires and pins on connectors going to the ecu are arranged different. Right now currently using stock si ecu because of immobilizer issues...will kpro solve these problems) I'm assuming the harness in question is for a 2005 up car which means it is different. The K-Pro can bypass the immobolizer or you can have the K-Pro accept the immobilizer signal and keep the security.
(Also on the six speed tranny there is a sensor on shifter assembly and I dont have wires for it on my stock harness, what is that sensor for?) It is the reverse gear lock out. It is easier to drive the car with that function enabled, otherwise you need to be careful when shifting. If you get a K-Pro get one for a 6speed car. Then you can use wires from the K20Z harness to modify the Si harness.
