Brake Bleeding help...
Ok so my 89 Si has been sitting with no Rear brake line for about 10 days now and today I installed a brand new brake line. But I bled the brakes really good and its about 15% better from 0% (no feel whatsoever). Now I called my dad and asked him what could be the problem and he said try to bleed the brakes from the MC brake line fittings cause the air travels up. Is this a better way cause the alternator and the big clip full of wires is right beside there and I dont wanna get any Brake fluid on it (even if I cover is). Should i take it to a shop and get them to bleed them with that pump that they hook up to the air compressor or just try from the MC fittings and re-do the calipers?
im not sure if you misinterpreted what your dad told you or not, but do not disconnect anything. a regular brake bleeding will do. air is not going to travel "up" from the caliper/wheel cylinder to the MC anyway because there are too many turns in the brake lines for it to happen naturally.
you really need 2 ppl to do this. you need some clear tubing and an empty bottle, a 10mm box end wrench and some fresh brake fluid.
first person (A) is in the car. second person (B) is at the brake. put the wrench on the bleed valve and then the tubing pointed up and then back down into the empty bottle. make sure the MC is FULL before starting this. NEVER let it empty while bleeding the brakes (or any other time for that matter).
1. B loosens the bleed valve at the brake. shouts "OPEN!"
2. A slowly pushes the brake pedal down, about 2/3 of the pedal stroke. fluid should be coming out of the brake, probably with bubbles of air. when at 2/3 stroke and HOLDING, A shouts "OK!".
3. B tightens the valve shut. shouts "CLOSED!"
4. A releases the brake pedal. A shouts "OK!"
Repeat until absolutely NO MORE AIR comes out for like at least 3 consecutive repetitions. ill go thru maybe a half a bottle at EACH corner sometimes to make sure all the air is out. and after 10 reps, GET UP AND CHECK THE MC RESERVOIR. make sure theres fluid in there! and dont forget.
repeat for each corner.
good luck.
