Default Cars drives itself into my refrigerator

Yup so, long story short.

I pull into my garage just now after work, shut the car off, unlock the door to my house and walk in with my stuff. About 20 seconds later I hear a loud thud which shakes the house. I run out into the garage to see that my CRX has literally driven itself into my fridge, while still in gear, with the keys out, and the ignition in the off position. The car was off!!! The car drove about 4 feet while in gear with me inside the house.

Does anyone have a clue what the heck is going on?! Now I have to pull my front end back out, and that really pisses me off.

but without the e- brake on? I'm not sure how steep your garage is or whatever but its not out of the question.

Garage is perfectly flat, even when it's in neutral the car will sit there without moving all night. The car was parked in my flat garage in 1st gear, no ebrake.

No, however maybe I should take a closer look all over the car to make sure I don't have any Y-49 parts on it.

Anyways, on a side note... The car has been running perfectly strong, no weird behavior at all, and the temperature was the same as always. This is by far the last thing I ever expected to happen. Hopefully I can figure out what the crap it was so I can fix the issue that caused this mess.

How far was the car from the fridge..? Because I know when I leave my car in gear it rolls about 2-3 ft before it locks/stops..

It was about 4 feet away... But the force it hit our fridge with was crazy. It caved the fridge door completely in, shook the house, and popped my hood up and everything.

I know what you mean about the car settling though, mine usually moves forward about 6 inches when it does (which is rare for me).

Are you sure you aren't "trying to cover it up with a story" or when you shut the car off, you automatically put it in gear and let the clutch out? I mean....I've never heard of anything like that...unless you have kid's and they were messing around with your car and stalled and the car jolted into the fridge!?!?

Umm why would I try to be covering it up with a story?

And nobody was home but me and my grandma's dog. It happened like 20 seconds after I parked the car and walked inside with my stuff. I have never heard of this before either, that is the exact reason I am trying to pinpoint the problem.

Well if you have a turbo timer...that may be or may not be your problem? I mean...It could be faulty and trying to start your car while it's in gear? Cause obviously it was shut off while you were parked and put it into gear. This is really odd.

sounds like you have a carbon buildup and a leaky injector or unburnt air/fuel charge in a cyl. the air/fuel charge began to settle and the glowing carbon ignighted it, causing the car to get maybe a few revs into your fridge.

thats the only thing i can really think of.

edit: good call on the turbo timer, do you have one?

I was actually thinking the same thing as tek_civic, with the unburnt fuel etc.

- no turbo timer
- no auto start

I am getting ready to replace all of the injectors, etc once I get it turbocharged. The engine is actually a fresh built block, less than a year old. It has a JUN ecu with a BLOX intake manifold. There could be something with the JUN ecu at low revs dumping too much fuel in.

Anyways, as a CRX owner I have become skilled in pulling body panels, and tapping things back into place. The car is good as new again, the bumper is a little scratched though.

I'm going to put my stock ecu back in and see if there is any changes. I noticed that when I use the JUN ecu there is soot that comes out of my tail pipe, it doesnt do that with the stock PR4 ecu ever.

This is about how far it drove:

I took a hammer to our fridge too and tapped it back out, it didnt close at all and the food just spilled out onto the floor. Heck of stuff on the other side of the garage fell off the shelf as well lol My CRX is like a tank! I still need to re align the front bumper but that will be easy with some zip-ties.

im thinking that there was just a short in the ignition system and it tried to start the car with it in gear... what year is your car? i believe that 88's dont have a clutch safety switch which would allow the car to turn over without the clutch pedal in and if the car was in gear it would roll... just my .02

My CRX is a 1990, but I don't think that there is a clutch safety switch on it. Looks like she will be parked in neutral for now.

lol, I've never heard about that happening before, but it could definitely be a short given the age/mileage of most 88-91 Civic/CRX's out there. If something like that happened to me I'd think someone tried to steal my car but fawked up, lol.

Btw...are our cars supposed to be able to roll a few feet when in 1st gear? I leave mine in first, and it rolls maybe 3 inches at most...if even that.
