del sol motor.
Ok so the search has been down for awhile and im looking for some answeres. I got a del sol a few weeks ago. I got a d16z6 in it. the head is almost off and i got a spare head with the car. My delema is I cant decide if I want to sell all the D series stuff and motor swap or if it would be worth it building up the d series and turboing it. I could get pretty good deals on turbos so most of the money would be spent in making it strong enough to handle the boost. I dont wanna be another person with a gsr in there car. What do you guys think about boostin a d series, is there much potential there? or you think i should just swap. just lookin for opinions thanks
its really just personal preference...
the d series will only handle so much stock, or any motor for that matter...but by the time you build the d series to be able to handle the boost for the power you are looking for, you couldve done a motor swap. personally if you want a relatively cheap way to to, buy an ls engine, bolt on a turbo kit, and you will be a happy camper. i tend to go overboard and cant just do something halfway, thats why i have 2 unfinished project cars at home. but really its just up to you.

Im looking for a mild turbo set up. My goal is for the car to be around the high 13's . Its gonna be my daily driver but i might take it to the track sometime. turbo gsr sounds pretty good. hmm to many possibilities haha.
well the reason i said LS engine as opposed to a GSR is bc you can get one for a fraction of the price, you dont have vtec, but with boost you wont know the difference. the ls has a longer stroke, and makes better tq numbers especially under boost. just something to think about

youre right, you can put down some good numbers and have a quick car with the sohc....my point was that the potential is not as high, but it really has to do with what the budget is, the goal, and how much time and effort you want to put into it

just tossing in my two cents, i have a gsr swap in mine, i love it, i think you would also, and later down the road you could build the hell out of it if you wanted. but keep the old engine you pull out in case you find another car with a blown engine one day.
haha.. the last few comments are the reasons i've been upgrading on my motor. when it breaks time to go aftermarket and move on up. hate it when things break one after another though.
what do you mean another guy with a gsr motor that should tell you something right there.. they're damn good motors. hahah... sounding offended because im a sol owner with a gsr a jdm one at that (like that changes anything lol). im proud of being a sol with gsr owner
back to your main ?. i would go d series turbo.. alot of power and very cheap to replace

i like the idea of ls turbo. not very popular and just as fun to play with. but with the right amount of money you can make that d series just as nice as a b but they wont ever flow as much. but thats talking about big numbers. expletive i dont know man ls turbo is my suggestion, dont listen to me though i change about what im going to through in my sol z6. thinking k20 but i dont know anything about the swap, i dont know whre i can get mounts. they arent on the hasport website but does anyone know if the eg ones work?
i say you do the swap and u will be content for a while which will give u time to save for the build. but don't forget once you put a gsr in ur gonna start breakin stuff!
proud sol owner w/ gsr also!
