Default Honda crx B16A engine, rattling, tinny noise when driving, any suggestions??

I would be very grateful for any of your suggestions here. My crx makes a sort of grinding noise when im driving, its like a tinny-metallic noise which becomes more aparent if you are in a high gear and pulling from lower revs, but all in all it does it all the time. My full exhaust system has been replaced, including manifold, but still does it. had the timing belt done as well, and had a diagnostic check, engine is running fine and timing ok. My thoughts are it could be some auxiliary drivebelt broblem, maybe the alternator bearings or something, but its seriously doing my head in. I dont want to take it to a mechanic, it would probably cost an absolute fortune. Please can any body help me out here, Cheers.

My first guess has to be the exhaust system rattling against a heat shield or other piece of metal.

Have you crawled underneath and moved the exhaust around to see if its hitting anything? Just because it was replaced doesn't mean its still not hitting anything.

Yeah, i took the heat shield off when i got my new stainless steel manifold fitted, and i have no cat now, so there is no heat shields at all on the car, and it isnt hitting against anything.

Is it only when driving? What if you park and rev it, any noise?

If its parked and i rev it, it has no noise, just the normal noise an engine should make. But if i were to take the engine to the bite with the handbrake still on, and have it labouring stopping it from pulling away, i would hear the noise from the engine, a metallic, and almost like a tractor kinda noise.

try driving and stepping on the clutch pedal disengaging the clutch and see if it goes away..im thinkin its those good old reliable tranny bearings that we were blessed with.... could also be a wheel bearing

Ive tried that, i only hear the noise when i have a load on the engine, if i put down the cluth pedal when im driving and rev it, whilst keeping the clutch down i wont hear it, but the minute i step back on the gas, i hear it. normally the harder i accelerate from say 3000rpm, the more aparent the noise will be. My last civic had bad bearings in the transmition, and i know what it sounds like, but the noise is not coming from under the gearbox, its like its coming from under the hood some where.
