Default buying an R that was in a minor accident...

I'm currently looking at a type-r (2001) that was in an accident that is for sale. The autotrader ad advertises a declaration of 2882.82$ in CANADIAN funds, so roughly ~2000$ US. The dealer says the car was rearended. I looked at the car today, looked at the panels, checked for miss-colorization and overspray, or panels that havent been aligned. I couldnt find a single flaw on the exterior, it was in mint shape. The only thing i could see (looking over the exterior for over an hour) was that where the rear bumber lined up there was a SMALL (millimeters) difference in panel gap.

I was wondering if 2000$ worth of repairs is something i should really be worried about? u think the frame would be damaged? i know a newer car like the R, repairs would be fairly pricey, so i dont think it was damaged too badly. just wanted an opinion.

should i be worried?

P.S. i ran a carfax, and everything checks out on the carfax, says no salvage or major accident. it doesnt even say it was in an accident and no manufacterer buy back

It depends. What would the final price be? How much would you have to spend in all after purchasing the car and spending $2000 to fix?

Might be worth throwing on an alignment rig to make sure there's nothing wompted in the hind end.

i also agree with this one. 2k in damages is relatively minor though.

Very true. It's over that just to replace the hatch.

But if it were me looking at the car, I'd want to know for sure.

could have the accident been bigger than you think and they paid for all repairs without dealing with the insurance company?

definitely make sure the non-cosmetic stuff is in good shape too!!

or even take it to acura and get them to check it out, it will cost a bit but they will look into so much stuff for you and let you know of everything they find. that way you could buy with confidence.
