i have done many cars without useing a compressor...you'll be ok..just point the strut to a wall for when it pops..dont hurt anyone..

You can cut the stock springs with a grinder, sawzall, or preferably with oxy-acetylene torch... which will remove the pressure. Just make sure you either do it safely (ie: not while weight of car is still on the spring, or your have your hand in the way). I wouldn't suggest just letting the spring go flying, pretty scary... though i have done it. You can also just rent a spring compressor from auto-zone or wherever and do it the right way.
thanks for the replys. i have another question. when it says to cut the bumpstops in half what exactly does that mean? does anyone have a pic of this? am i cutting the middle out to make it half the size or am i just chopping it in half and using one half?
