Hey! Newbie here with first vtec motor.
Just got my d16vtec motor swapped in my my 90hatch. Motor runs excellent but, I am not sure the vtec in working. I have never felt the engine surge or change sound like I understand it is supposed to.
Is there any chance that a non working speedo is causing the vtec not to kick in?..as per the Haynes manual, the vtec turning on is based on vehicle speed, rpm, oil pressure, and so on. I did verify that there is voltage going to the vtec selenoid. Are there some other things that I can look for and check?

 

did u use a vtec ecu?!

 

your vss not working could be the problem, or most likely is the problem. what is your motor redlining at at the moment? it should pull to 7200 rpm.

 

Yes I used a p28.. this particular ecu was originally in the donor car that the vtec motor came from.

 

cranked the motor to about 72-7300 rpm. Just steady rise all the way to redline

 

what ur recent rev limit?

 

it sounds like its working if you are reving that high. vtec in the sohc aren't that loud.
