"crackling" at higher RPMs?
I got a new set of powdercoated headers to replace my stock exhaust manifold, which had a cat in it. The new ones don't and now in the higher RPMs the car makes a "crackle" sound, I thought it might just drive out but it's been a little over a week. My best guess is that it's from the removal of the stock manifold with the cat in it, would buying a new high flow cat for the exhaust pipe fix it or help? Or any other ideas on what it could be. It's on a 96 civic hatchback dx
I have no clue how to be more descriptive heh if I could put the sound on here I would, but I'm kind of a noob with the whole "I'm a honda mechanic" thing and I read somewhere that the cat was in the stock manifold, but I thought there was one under the car? I guess what I'm really asking is does the 96 Civic DX hatchback have 2 cats and need 2 or if it only had one in the manifold, and now do I need to buy a high flow cat for under that car.
Has anyone else run into this problem or know someone who has or at least heard something that it would sound like on a car after they took off their stock manifold?

Yeah see I thought I had a leak from the downpipe to the pipe it connects to, the one that looks like it has a cat heh, but after I installed the headers and downpipe I took it to a good muffler shop and they fixed it, because he cut and shaped a new end of the pipe and flange, welded it on and slapped the gasket on and bolted it back up I watched that and I know the leak isn't coming from there at least. Let me ask this stupid question. The cat in the stock manifold, was it the only one, or did it have 2, and the other is where it's supposed to be? If not, I'm guessing maybe a high flow cat (put in place of where it's supposed to be in the exhaust system) might fix the problem. I have really no clue what I'm talking about I'm just trying to think logically with the info that I do know. Thanks a million for any and all input from everyone.
Also, I checked out that video of the RX-7 and it doesn't sound anything choppy like that, it's very clean and loud but I'd say (since I don't have a tach) between 3-4k RPM it sounds like...well...it makes me think of rice, if rice had a sound lol, almost a pun I suppose. But it just has this god awful annoying crackle, but before and after that it's very clean.
Ok finally, here is my video of my car making the noise. Tell me if I'm right about thinking it's because of the cat being gone?

haha... that so reminds me of living in arkansas....
i'm sure if you add a resonator in the piping, it will go away. or if at your local redneck exhaust shop, just ask to put in a glasspack if they dont understand. had to do it once when i was going to school there for a classmate's car.
nice username by the way.... "Large Fry Motha *****!!!" LMAO...
