Default My new rex project MPG

LOL, shes my new daily!

The body is just about perfect... The interior has nice floormats, the eng runs strong, this thing is the perfect daily driver!!

What are my plans for it?? Well, I took off the stickers and lame lisc plate frames, and basically converted it back to stock. I will paint the wheels silver soon.

Jade hooked me up with her old drivers side seat, so that went in, and I added jdm taillights... (see them? all amber corner, lol)

I may drop it 3/4" all around on neuspeed springs, and tokico blue shocks. Just because I have them allready just sitting around.

Then, down the road, I am planning a d15z1 swap with ecu and all egr, 5 wire o2, and vtec-e system installed. This will be on a hf tranny, and I plan to get about 50-55mpg on the hwy. (if you have a hf tranny FS, lemme know ill trade a 0-1 ecu jumper for it )

BTW, the car was 1,200 and I feel that was well worth it!

Ill post pics as I get parts for the z1 veetak swap!

Ryan

i got over 50 in my eg6, but thats because one of my intercooler pipes(rubber lol) were pinched so it barely got any airflow.

i will have a hf tranny for sale soon, but im in colorado,

anyways nice project, wish my rex was that clean.

you can get 50+ mpg, easy. You don't even need to go vtec-e. A dpfi DX using a d16y7 block and head only can get that good of mileage. You have to use everything from the DX except the block and head, though.

BTW, I think you got an awesome deal on that car. It would have sold for much more in the midwest or northeast.

Right on guys, those haters at the beginning of this thread got me thinkin.... Im game for sure now. My buddy Chris xenocron.com is gunna get a call in the morning for a z1 ecu. k20ef8 (chris) made me aware of a 1.3L jdm carb eng (d13B)... Im thinkin that block with a z1 head and z1 ecu.... Oh, and hf tranny. And I bet it will make more power than a hf crx.... 60mpg+ here I come!

PS, lemme know if someone can score me a nice hf tranny! Ill trade a 0-1 ecu jumper for it, the offer stands.

I just wanted to throw in my support. I'm all about the interesting engineering challenges.

I was thinking a 96-00 HX engine would be a good candidate. It was rated at 44mpg/hwy. I think that just in the lighter CRX, it would break 50mpg...and then even more on a HF tranny.

And you'd have 115hp on tap instead of the the z1's 92hp. If I could achieve my mpg goals with more power, well, more power it is.

And it seems counterintuitive, but there are some ultra efficient carbs out there that can get insane mpg results.

you should invest in a tire/wheel combo that results in a larget outside dia at the tread. this will result in slightly longer gear ratio, drop your rpms a bit at every speed.

yeah, go with as light of wheels as possible, keep as much power to the wheels as you can to reduce engine load. a lightweight flywheel would help here too.

Keep in mind that in order to be CA legal, you have to use the CA setup for this motor, which uses a four wire sensor. I am not sure if you actually sacrifice mileage with this setup vs the wideband setup, or how much you could lose.

With the exception of the Insight, hybrids today have a couple of problems. First is weight. These are not exactly lightweight cars. A CRX is MUCH lighter than a prius. Especially a 1988-1989 HF. The second problem is that hybrids tend to be tall and boxy, which creates less than ideal aerodynamics. Notice, though, that I said the exception is the Insight. And it is no coincidence that the Insight is the mileage leader.

Sounds like a cool project. I am looking at getting another CRX for my DD. It will be a secret until I get her home, she is patiently waiting for me 2000 miles away.

50-55 is very possible. A guy on my website is getting over 60mpg on his stock Del Sol S.

I've been planning the d15z1 swap into my 89 sedan for the last 10 months or so. It will probably go in this month.

bunger has the same swap in his 88 HF, and gets around 60 mpg.

If you're interested, join http://www.gassavers.org and share your build with the other MPG nuts there.

if you want more mpg i have a solution, since it's your DD and you only have two seats, gut the rear panels and take it to a fab shop and get carpet put in the rear so your loosing 50 lbs and adding 5
