delrin offset bushings
I am interested in making some delrin offset bushings for the front uca's and lca's on my 92 civic autox/ track car. (I have access to a lathe)
I searched and found this:
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=712986
I had a few questions
1. Material looking on http://www.mcmaster.com/ , it seems 8576K32 (black delrin) may bee the best choice due to higher impact strength than 8572K32 (white delrin)
Also i have never heard of anyone using acetal copolymer, and really dont know what it is, but it sounds like that could be an option too.
2. In that link I read that using delrin for the lca's may not work.
Would that be due to binding?
I believe that both lca's pivot points are in line with each other and there wouldnt be any twisting motion like the rear lca's
Anyone have any thoughts, info, etc
Thanks
Joe

I am about to buy some delrin, so if anyone thinks this is a bad idea, please speak up.
(maybe this should be moved to rr/autox, since this is not for a street car?)
Thanks

Bad idea for two reasons:
1. You are probably overpaying
2. There are many more alternatives.
I ran through a whole buttload of different types of plastics before we settled on our final blend. This included Delrin, Delrin AF and AF 100, Nylatron NSM (lol just for ***** and giggles really), and Ertalyte EX among others, before finally settling on a relatively simple polyurethane from Baer, which we modified the blend a little on. For our purposes (also LCA bushings), this was the best choice. Our most important factors were durability, and hardness. In the end, the Baer stuff we ended up using easily beat out the Delrin for our purposes.
I don't see how binding would become an issue in the front LCA, and I have not read any members commenting about binding issues in the front. The topic has focused mainly on the rears AFAIK.
Also, are you planning on making one for that giant radius-arm bushing?

1. I really didnt think $10-$15 per foot was that expensive for delrin. I am only making one set, so I only need one foot. On mcmaster, the poly is 4 times as expensive as the delrin, so im hoping delrin will be fine.
2. I could not figure out who this "Baer" is, do you have a link? Also, i dont plan on making my own blend, nor do i know how. I just want to throw some plastic on a lathe and be done.
I was planning on making the huge radius arm bushing and just make it have the same offset as the other LCA bushing, but im gonna hold off on those for now and just make the UCA bushings first.
Thanks for your help
