Default few questions about timing...

ok first off, does running higher octane fuel (93+) and advancing your timing make your car quicker? also, in da's in order to change your timing at the dizzy you have to connect a jumper wire under the pass. kick panel to that plug....what does that do? how will I know if I'm getting detonation, and how much timing is too much with 93 octane fuel?

save your money on the higher octane fuel as it has no benefits on a factory motor that only requires 87 octane.

well this is more on the advanced side of tuning a car....yes your car will be "quicker" with advanced timing and 93 octane will prevent detonation and possibly in the end let you increase the timing further then on 87 octane. you prolly will not blow away any previous time slips at the 1/4 mile but the car will feel more responsive. yes you will need to jump the service connection comming off the ecu. this prevents the ecu from trying to adjust the timing back to stock when your adjusting it at the dizzy. all though i have never personally seen the ecu do this on a obd0 system...i have seen it done on a obd2 system. it's mostly just a task taken to make sure the ecu doesn't adjust the timing back to stock after you just adjusted it and keeps the ecu from reading the timing while your adjusting it. detonation is more of a banging sound then a pinging and you will know for sure when this happens. it's a noise you can't ignor and you'll just know when it is happening. best of luck man!
