Default EF driver door is popping/clicking when opening... so annoying!

does anyone else have this problem? I've owned several EF's, and each one has had this problem where the flat silver piece of metal slides in and out of the front pillar, it sounds like it pops or clicks when I open the door. is there a way to fix this?

this is a very common problem. happens to a lot of 89-91 because of the door mounted belts adds a lot of extra weight. apparently the door mechanism isnt meant to handle that.

anyway, look at the doorjam, youll see its cracked or completely severed at the joint. you can temporarily try to weld the joint back to the doorjam. when i bought mine, the guy did that before, but it ended up falling apart again. ive thought of making a plate and riveting it on, maybe thought would be stronger. never got around to it. i just ended up taking off the connecting arm completely. and just always kept in mind not to swing the door open wildly, and be aware of any wind that would make it fly open if it was already slightly open. i wouldnt want to damage any parked cars next to me.

I feel your pain as this blows chunks! My son, 4yrs. old, always says "Daddy, you car goes DONG!".

I tried getting it slightly welded one time but that didn't work. The guy did a tack(??) weld on each side but they broke the minute I opened the door.

What amazes me is that the 96-2000 and I believe the new 2006 model civics still use the same design so years from now they will have the same problem too.

If anyone finds a good solution they will be known as a HONDA GOD!
