best non vtec head is the one that you have.....put a cam and valve springs in it and I got a set of d 16a1 rods and pistons I could sell you that will give you a nice bump in compression........pm me

agreed, building a non vtec d16 might get you 130whp. unless you feel like dumping a lot of money in it.

there is a reason you don't see it everyday though...

Why would you want to go all motor non vtec, when you can get a vtec and put out more, for nearly the same price?

Doesn't make sense. But do what you wanna do.

hey if you want to do an all motor non vtec more power to him....they can be fun there was a video of the one homemadeturbo.com made and I thought it was damn sick and the used all oem honda parts. maybe it is not the baest bang for your buck but hey I think it is cool. BTW stock d16 valve springs are not good to 9k.....my zex stage tow cam is only supposed to make power till about 7800 with valve springs. with an after market cam you need the right springs since they are bieng pushed down further between each revolution. They also make more aggressive cams for the non vtec than the vtec sohc, with a good port and polish mated up with a good mani it can be a peppy little car. Also the non vtecs have less moving parts in the valvetrain and are a little bit simpler. just my 2 cents

Hmm keep us posted on wats going on. I think Si0385 is right, a little bit more research can never go astray. I have a D15b4 and its rather breathless. Ive been driven in a D16 and it didnt feel that impressive ( that much more impressive) over mine.

it's the retainer you have to worry about. i have the ISKY valvetrain, which by many accounts uses stock springs, but titanium retainers.
a no-VTEC D16 is fun, you can build one for relatively cheap.
do a search, there have been plenty stories about it.
it will be a very peaky engine, and in my case 13:1 CR is difficult to find fuel for. forget about driving an engine like that on the street

Turbo a D16A1 or ZC. 75.5mm bore x 90mm stoke = good torque.
