Hey everyone my roomate just bought a 99 ek coupe with the D16Y5 motor and manual tranny from a fellow H-T member. The car already had an AEM cold, Eibach pro-kit, KYB 8way adj, generic front strut bar and came with a Si front lip, ctr style grill and rear sway bar. The motor and tranny has almost 200k on it and the body/interior is pretty good.
My question would be if the motor is worth taking out, getting it blueprinted and putting it back in to build from there. OR get a D15B, P30, and keep it on the Y5 tranny and axels. He doesn't have enough to go B so that's not an option, less then 2k price range so open to opinions.
I'll post up pictures tomorrow and a list of future plans and such. Thanks for the feedback!

http://www.d-series.org is where you want to go for all your sohc needs. honda-tech hates the d series. for 2g's you can build a pretty decent N/A sohc using all oem parts. unless your going turbo.

Ummm...honda-tech does not hate d series. If you didn't know, 2 of our 3 mods run turbo D series. A lot of the eg-ek roamers run a turbo d series as well. To the original poster, check out d-series.org, as well as doing some searching here on honda-tech. There is a lot more info on this site than on d-series in my opinion.

I posted this more as a build thread with some questions thrown in the mix. Thanks for the feedback and I'll get them pix up tomorrow after work

Today we put in:
Denso Iriduim plugs
Bosch wires - will be replaced shortly with Nology
Castrol Syntec w/ Fram filter
OE fuel filter
Ceramic pads
and fixed the driver side window, had to buy a regualtor from honda and I think the motor is going bad. I also sanded down the Si front lip because it was blue with black splotches also bought a 4wire Bosch 02 senser however the one that needs to be replaced is the 5 wire can anyone help me with the 5 wire to 4wire conversion? After some research I think we're going to pull the motor, get the block blueprinted and possible get the crank knifedged. Put on a Z6 or Y8 head and intake manifold. I'm still undecided if I want to convert to OBD1 and run a P30. Any thoughts or suggestions on this?

Yeah there's the old owner, civic duty. I'm glad we were able to meet up, she's in good hands now
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1414454 has tons of information on the y5 engine, and some discussion of its potential, both n/a and turbo
