Default Well this sucks

My girlfriend and I went out for little bit on Friday night and she gets the idea to go see the beach (about a 2 hour drive each way) and so I say sure I haven’t been there in a while.

I had just finished putting a D15B8 engine in the car a few weeks ago and the car was running good except this small idling problem but wasn’t anything major and kindof wanted to see how it would do.

So we start out going to the beach and everything is good and we get to the beach and stay maybe like 20 minutes and decide to go back home. On the way home the car just dies about 45 minutes from my house and won’t start. It was about 5:30 in the morning and we were stuck on the side of the road. I looked under the hood and noticed that the timing belt had slipped off and bent the camshaft.

I guess the poor little car only got one good trip out of it before it couldn’t take it anymore and decided to off itself. Well at least now I have a project for next weekend to see if any of the valves are bent and what to do with it.

Correction, I guess I should have said camshaft pulley not the entire camshaft.

UPDATE: well I went out and thought that maybe I could just replace the pulley itself so that I could get the car up the driveway to work on it better but it appears that the camshaft actually broke.

I have a D16A6 head I had laying around I'm going to put on it just to get it running and see if there's anything else wrong with it.

One question, what would be the best head gasket to put on the car and what timing belt would I use?

The engine is a 8 valve engine and i thought it might be a little better to replace it with the A6 head snce it has 16 valves, i know not too much of a difference but I already have the A6 head ready to go and don't feel like looking for camshaft. I checked to make sure the pistons had 4 valve reliefs each and they do so it's not like the CRX HF engine where it only has 2 per piston.

So should I use the head gasket for the B8 or the A6 and the same question for the timing belt?

Do you have a part number for that head gasket and what timing belt would I use with it? Would the A6 belt work since I'm using that head?

Yes actually I was and was kind of wondering if maybe something shot up in there, caused it to get stuck making it so the belt couldn't turn snapping the pulley off.

I was planning on putting the cover back on this weekend so I could set the timing but oh well now, guess I'll have to wait till the other head is on make sure the cover is on this time.

It had oil but the coolant was a little dry but not gone and when I took the head off yesterday it looked pretty good from what I can tell. I'm also wondering if not having the lower cover on the timing belt might have had soemthing to do with it and maybe something got shot up in there while on the highway.
