Default Problem with trans help me out cable tranny guys

Last night i was driving home and i tried to shift into 3rd and it took a little push to knock it in gear, i went to downshift for a turn and my shifter just flopped back and forth. I put the clutch in and try to at least put it and neutral and it stays in 3rd. The shifter goes straight back and straight forward with no resistance at all, no side to side. I dont know much about cable trannies...please tell me this is just a problem with the cable or the linkage only, any help appreciated thanks.

well it could be the shift arms, what car is the motor/tranny in, crx, civic teg .... did you buy or make you linkage arms, check the straight shift arm that bolts to the tranny, make sure its still attached, lol check the rubber bushing too, those older cable tranny just give out like that too, one minute they are working great then pow not even beating on it and its done, i've had too many to count and many of them go on me too, especially third gear, lol hate to say that sorry,
