It depends on what you're looking for.
If you're looking for value - a low purchase price along with a reasonably long tread life - the ES100 is a very good choice. So is the Kumho Ecsta SPT. Both offer good dry traction, excellent wet traction (slightly better for the SPT), long treadlife (typically 30-45K miles), and a bargain price ($62 per tire for either choice, in 195/55-15).
If you're looking for great handling "feel", it's tough to beat the OEM tire, the Bridgestone Potenza RE010, which was designed for our cars. Excellent dry traction, very good wet traction, fairly good tread life (15-20K miles). Quite expensive, though, at $138 per tire (195/55-15). My personal favorite for street driving.
If you're looking for the best dry traction regardless of price or treadlife, such as if you take your car to autocrosses or the occasional track event, then the Falken Azenis RT-615 is the right choice, $77 per tire (205-50-15) at Vulcan. Outstanding dry traction, so-so wet traction (decent but not as good as most other street tires), short tread life (10-12K miles).
If you're looking for something a bit better than the SPT and ES100, but you don't want the high price of the RE010 or the rapid treadwear of the RT-615, other decent choices include the Kumho Ecsta MX ($76/tire for 205/50-15) and the Toyo T1-R ($84/tire for 195/55-15).

The RA-1 is an R compound track tire, and there are plenty of downsides when using track tires on the street - rapid treadwear (don't expect more than 5K miles, maybe less), need for warmup for best performance, lack of warning before losing grip, poor wet traction (the RA-1 is better than nearly all other track tires, but worse than any street tire). The RA-1 is a great track tire (that's what I use on the track) but I wouldn't recommend it for street use.

at least RA1 will squeeze when they at max, kumho v70 won't squeeze ....
for street tire, the kumho MX is a good choice, i might get a set this summer. i m still debet them with falken 615...these are my only choice.

Will you be running your stock 15inch rim or a wider aftermarket rim? For the stockers a good choice would be the re010, OEM size. Pricey tire but worth every penny. I run the Falken Zeix all season on my stockers and the Toyo T1R on my 15x7 Volks. I've heard of a few bad experiences with the es100 such as the tire chunking and shitty tread life. Could be an isolated incident though.

My ES 100s chunked. I was sharing my car with a friend at autocross. These tires really need to cool down between runs. If not, you can ruin a set in just 1 day. That's approximately ten 1-minute runs + two or three 1-minute fun runs. So basically, I ruined a set of es100s in about 12-13 minutes.

They're rocks? As in heavy as rocks, or hard as rocks?
Or you think they're the best street tire available?

as Ken already stated this is a very poor choice for street use! The new 615s are very impressive IMO speaking from personal use.

cool, I was really curious what peoples opinions were on this. I love Azenis but no way in the seattle rain! I just got the Toyo T1R a few months ago and am pretty happy with them. I do alot of driving and go through tires once a year so I get a chance to try out new stuff.... No to ES100's
Those who are using the same tires for the track or autocross as the street may find that some tires are better at that sort of thing. I've used my original RE010 tires (the ones that came on my car and are still on my car, with 29K miles on them and still a little bit of tread left before the treadbars are flat across) in a couple of track events (241 actual track miles). They experienced a little chunking (pitting) around the outside edge of the tread, but are otherwise okay. I haven't used the ES100 on the track, but have them on the GS-R, and they're just fine as a street tire - have 28K miles on those and still have about 5/32" of tread left, which means they should last over 40K miles. See additional ES100 comments in this previous topic.
Of course, those who do a LOT of autocross or track events are more likely to be willing to accept the downsides of the Azenis (or, more likely still, willing to get an extra set of wheels for some R compounds for that purpose).
One more point for those who are interested in getting the RE010... I still have another set FS, see sig.
