oil change questions..
Hey, I just got my car ~1.5 months ago and its time for a oil change.
The problem is that I didn't get an owner's manual with my car.
I've searched for specs on how many quarts it takes, etc. and how
to reset the "maintenance required" indicator but didn't come up with anything
specific to my 97 accord ex (4cyl). Can anyone fill me in on some of this? I can't
find jack
.

4.5 quarts of 5w30. Fram Filter code: PH3593a but most peeps in here run OEM honda filters. To reset the maintence indicator, insert your key into the slot adjacent the Odometer trip reset button.

i also run 4 quarts...and dave why do you buy a new drain plug each time?
I use 4.5 w/ a new filter. I let the oil sit and drail for a while, it still drips after 15-20 mins. So I just let it all drip out before filling it again. Try Bosch, STP, or Mobil 1 filters. Don't get the fram orange one.
I asked a local dealer if I could save on a bulk purchase of oil filters. He said I could get a case of 30 filters. I was like "oh okay I'll take that." Then my friend was like "dude do you know how many years that will last?" I was like "oh yeah nevermind."

However, I think the USDM OE filters are just fine. But these HAMPs are pretty dope.

Introducing Japan Honda's aftermarket line of automotive products..."HAMP Synergy". HAMP Synergy are aftermarket products designed by Honda and are a step up from the "Honda Original Parts" products. Not meant to compete with racing produts, however, these peices are quality. The HAMP filter can be used on any Honda, but was specifically designed for use in the Type-R and S series cars in mind. Features include a unique release valve that dynamically adjusts to the conditions within the filter to keep the oil flow and pressure constant. The HAMP oil filter will last longer and filter better than any of the oil filters currently on the market.
One time Dave and I went to the local dealer and he almost bought a case of 30 filters.... The look on the guy behind the counter's face was priceless! "You mean to tell me you want 30 filters?"

Whats the big deal? Me and my brother have a case and a half of filters between our 3 hondas.
use 4.5 quarts and try to use the oem honda filter and oil pan washer from honda.
the oil pan bolt is 17 mm. drive the car around the neighborhood to warm up the oil so when you drain it, it flows out faster and more dirty oil gets drained. take off the oil cap on the engine before draining, this also allows the oil to drain out faster.
make sure the oil pan bolt and washer are tight when you put it back on, but don't over tighten it OR you'll overstrip it and its a pain in the *** buying a new oil pan. for the oil filter, hand tight it and get a filter wrench and turn it 1/4 clockwise.

Same here, have 25% discount all the time at Airway honda(chicago) and i usually hook up all friends and relative with honda oem stuff along with the cars themselves.
Also, when buying the oem filters, be sure to get the crush washer, they SHOULD be taped to the top of each sealed filter... some dealers neglect to include the washer. And i usually run 4.5 qts but that's because i change it on an incline so a little more runs out.
