Timing belt slides off
I'm installing a new timing belt on my b16 right now, but i made the mistake of removing the adjuster pulley when i was removing the old belt. Now when i install the belt, and turn the engine over 6 times counterclockwise the belts slowly slides to the the outside of each pully and eventually hangs off the edge. I've reinstalled the adjuster pulley and the belt 3 or 4 times now tring to get it not to slide off. The crank pully is not fully torqued down yet if that matters. Any1 have any suggestion as on what to do?
There ia a thin metal washer type thing that goes inbetween the crank pully & the teeth on the crank shaft. I think that helps keep the belt where it is supposed to be. do you have that? What method are you using to put the belt on?
Holy **** man, i musta been drunk or really tired when i took it appart. For some reason i thought it went inside the crankpulley. I do have the thng, but it's kinda warped in a few place. Should just try to straighten it out, or start looking for a new one to be on the safe side?
I don't know about the B16, but on the D15A2 there are 2 champered washers, one on the inside and one on the outside of the crank sprocket, which act as timing belt guides. Make sure you have the champered edge facing away from the crank sprocket ie. timing belt. example ]=[. IMHO, I would replace the washers.
