my 87 CRX HF project: The chevronda
Before i start let me say this: I DID NOT DO THIS SWAP!! I bought the car this way for an incredibly small amount of money.
Before i bought this i had an 85 CRX Si i was trying to make an autocross/HPDE car out of. When the 87 came up for sale i abandoned my 85 and am now concentrating on this:

The specs:
87 CRX HF:
27mm Mugen Torsion bars
Tokico Illuminas all around
6 pt. autopower bolt-in cage
Quad 4 motor from a 91 Grand Am
Complete Grand Am wiring harness
Grand Am gauges and light switch
3 speed auto with Trans Star shift kit
Racing seat (unsure of brand) with expired harness
Battery relocated to back with custom box and kill switch
Straight pipe to thrush muffler exhaust
custom header
Interior gutted
Custom Strut bar with camber adjustment
Eibach springs in rear (to be replaced with GC coilovers)
The car dyno'ed 140WHP and 124 Ft/lb of torque.
In the near future i plan on swapping the auto for a 5-speed, upgraded the rear springs (the eibach's have a really low pring rate), and generally autocrossing the hell out of it.
The car does run and runs very well, the only driveability issue is a fuel cutoff issue on hard left turns. Not too shabby for $1000...
The tech? What do i need to change from auto to manual? Clutch, tranny, ECU? What else?

hmmm wonder why a grand am motor was chosen for this. But props for it anyways. the guy who did it must know his ****
Can't argue with 140whp in a 1700lb car for $1000
Is this a $2006 Challenge car, or did you compete with it in previous years?
You may want to look into replacing those solid front brake rotors with something vented

Yep... those quad four motors will get the job done, alright. My buddy drove the **** out of his quad four grand am. What tranny are you going to use? Did GM even make a manual to go with that motor? Sounds like a whole heap of pain-in-the-*** to swap the tranny at this point.
good luck.
good luck.

It was a $2005 challenge car and was taken by the previous owners. If i can get a reliable tow vehicle im gonna try to make it down this year myself.
Timing belt isnt an issue as the car has a timing chain.
The car ran a best of 14.8 in the quarter mile with the 3 speed auto. Apparently when it hits third though it falls flat on it's face, hence me wanting a 5 speed. Some of the early grand ams did come ith manual transmissions. The biggest problem i see in swapping one would be the linkage.
When i do acquire a tow vehicle ill be autocrossing mainly with the miami valley sports car club.
thanks for the kind words guys!

Looks like a good deal.
I know for a fact that engine was sold with a 5 sp option. Back in high school, a friend of mine got a new Bretta GTZ. It had the 5 sp tranny, and made like 180hp i think.

97 Cavaliers came with a trans that should bolt rite up that that motor
My friend is running a 91 grandam motor in his 97 caviler fully built motor hopfully will be pushing 600whp after tuning
The trans linkage is Cable just like a Rsx or h22 that would be eaiser then solid
linkage

MM I guess I do not see the point as Honda already has some ptent motors to put in. But then again we did a D16 into a Fiat x19.
I roll out pretty well?
