Homocidial Automatic Seat-Belt
hey, my automatic seat belts go forward when the door closes and back when the door opens, while being pretty funny to watch, it is getting old, and my friends are tired of having mass bruises and black eyes, anyone know how to correct this problem? i've tried and cannot find the lines for the belt in the wiring diagrams
I'm going to take a wild guess; this is a 90-91 accord ? The seatbelts could be covered under warranty, it's a gray area with some dealers, the mechanical part of the system is supposed to be covered for "the useful life of the car".
From your description the restraints are operating backwards? If the belt is foward with the door closed, the system is deemed unsafe and Honda should fix it for free

Yes, it must be a '90 or '91 Accord. Unfortunately these years are kind of the bastard children of Accords, mainly (I think) because of the auto seatbelts. I had a problem with my SB warning light. I'm kind of a shadetree mechanic, and when I couldn't figure out the problem, and no one here was able to help me, and two other mechanics couldn't figuree it out....
Finally, I went to the nearest Honda dealer (90+ minutes away, yes I live in a black hole), and got the issue resolved. Apparently, they wouldn't even think of it as a possible warranty.
My advice is just bite the bullet and pay for trained Honda Techs. not your frst choice I know, but it would have saved me a BUNCH of headaches.

yea it's a 90 accord, i just want the damn things to work, i got a few con artist friends that should be able to sweet talk some guy, or amy lawyer uncle that can outright threaten them into doing it, ty for letting me know that it's a known problem
Putting aside the comments about your friends of dubious distinctions,,, just give Honda a call Monday and inquire about your safety issue seat belts almost strangling you. I'm sure they'd rather happily fix your errant seat belts, rather that face a lawsuit when someone gets throttled.
Sadly, they can't offer retrofitting the later non-passive systems in; since they'd be in violation of Congressional Statutes with regards to vehicle modifications.
But, hey; at least you can goof on the thing running back & forth again.

It's illegal for them to retro fit new restarints? That sux!
Do you know if there are any laws against me doing it to my own car?

My friends mom contacted Honda through either their website or an 800 number about her seatbelts in an early 90 civic with those same type of seat belts. Honda said all dealers will fix them without charge since it's a liability issue. When she went into the dealership they fixed and afterward tried charging her. After a ranting session and quoting Honda (corporate) they let her leave, no charge.
Something you may want to look into, maybe contact corporate and see what their offical policy is.

whatever you wanted to retrofit into your car would just have to pass the government safety standards, otherwise if u wanted to put in a 4-point harness u would have to have a certified tech install it
