B16 (j1) or GSR (s80) transmission for my b18c1 crx
Im trying to decide between the two transmissions. There's about a $220 price difference. I did a LOT of searching last night and saw charts and charts of gear ratio comparisons.
GSR has taller gears, ie higher speed but slower accel, lower rpm etc
This car wont be seeing a lot of highway miles. Im off to college soon and will be living in a small town. But I also want to have fun at a track every now and then.
Im asking because I know very little about the two trannys and even less about how they preform on a GSR motor.
What would you guys recommend? Spend the little extra cash and get the s80, or pocket the difference for upgrades by getting the j1.
Thanks in advance

Which mounts are you using? You'll need a hydro conversion kit from hasport to run the S80.
My vote would be for the S80 though.

In years past, I would have been worried about using a shorter transmission than stock on a GSR. But you know what? The GSR uses virtually the SAME bottom end as the ITR and uses exactly the same gear ratios as the J1 transmission. And Honda is willing to sell and warranty the ITR that way. Furthermore, I have been using a B16A transmission on my ITR for three years, and the motor just keeps on trucking. So go ahead and get that B16A transmission. You will save money both on the transmission AND by not needing to buy the hydraulic conversion kit. Oh, and 4500RPM at 80MPH really isn't that bad. And the ability to climb the steepest of mountain passes without downshifting gives one a certain feeling of invincibility.

i would get the hydro s80 or even better would be a ys1. with the s80 it will be cheaper and easyer to add a final drive and lsd later on down the road. i have a cable y1 non lsd and it nice but you cant get **** for replacement parts for and its trashed now, so think about parts availability also.
The GSR tranny is geared for the higher torque GSR. Also it is a hydro-tranny which would have to be converted via hasport or innovate kit.
For the money, I think the J1 is the better choice.
