Took my father for a spin yesterday
Yesterday I took my father for a spin in my ITR. My father always helped my with my car when adding mods and so forth but never drove in it. Well yesterday we were driving and he was like "where all this power that we been adding on" so I said "well let my go into vtec." So I go into vtec and he laughed at me and said "what was that little bump I felt. Was that vtec?" Moral of the story is you can't impress someone who was a teenager in the 60's. Just thought it was funny.
Ahhhhhhh, you are correct. Not with torque & horespower @least.
But, take him to a road course.....

Everytime my dad rides the R, he's always telling me how it's slow and how his 325i can spank the R. I've never put the car in VTEC with him in the car. I'd like to keep it a surprise just in case I end up lined up at a light with his hoo-ride.

Hahah. Quite the opposite for me because my dad thing's my car is fast and raw compared to anything he has driven. The reason because back when he was a kid there weren't any fast cars. Just econoboxes.
When I showed my car to my Dad he says "What did that thing cost, 35 thousand?" I laughed .. at any rate, he used to race stock cars when he was young, and he was impressed (although not so much by the noise since he's getting a little older) ha ha
my dad use to drive a 67 vette, and he said the R will take his car anyday on a road course. But he also said to not even think about taking him in the quarter. It's true, that 427 is a monster.
my dad is the same way, grew up hot roddin. but he does like my R. when keith (the guy i bought the R from) brought it over for us to look at, my dad took a drive. he thought he'd be slick and drive off all slow, but a little bit later i heard the vtec growl, so i know he was gettin on it. pretty funny.
Man I wish my dad was cool about power. Once I go over 4k his hand goes straight for the oh-**** handle. "You're going too fast" he says, when I'm driving under the speed limit(!) I just tell him "but I'm driving under the speed limit!" but it never works. I don't get it, once some people hear the sound of an engine they think they're going to die, even when they are doing 40 mph in a 50 mph zone.
my dad loves fast cars, but just never could have one while he was young. But now he's got a Jaguar S-Type and he thinks my R is slower. He's never heard or felt the vtec in my R though. So he thinks its all looks. heheh

hehe....my dad had a Mercedes 300SL and Porche 356 in college (inheritance, long story), used to race people all over town.
His first non-freeway cruising ride in the R was in the hills of Malibu at high speed at the ITR Expo last year. Many "I'd like to remain alive" comments filled the first hour, a s-eating grin filled the next three.
Now he calls my car the equivalent of his 356 when he was in college.

My dad grew up driving a cuda and roadrunner. I use to have a turbo talon that he loved to steal on me saturday mornings. But he likes the R for the handling and braking. Sometimes he will go fill it up and I can hear him pull in vtec down the street =/

My dad had a '67 Firebird Formula 400 when he was a kid.
First time he drove my car he said something like, "This is a four???" He also kept bouncing off the rev limiter *cringe* because he wasn't used to how fast it went from 5500 to redline. "I just need 500 more RPM," he said.
First thing he said when he looked under the hood was, "Plenty of room for a turbocharger."
