Default Interior help...

Hey I have a 89 CRX si...

I am in the process of sealing off some leaks and have pulled up the carpet and all of the interior... Under the carpet is this black tar-like layer... is there any way to remove this stuff cleanly?... since water has been sitting in there for awhile part of it has gone soft so i wiped it away but now I wouldnt mind cleaning up the whole area... so is there any product that can assist me in removing this gunk?...

You need to get it really cold and then it will come up with a chisel. Use dry ice or do durring the winter time.

That stuff is sound deadening matterial. As stated get some dry ice and a rubber mallot and it will come off. Then to get the residue you will have to get some kind of solvent.

dry ice is your friend if you want to take it out. search "sound deadening" and you'll see some write ups.

but perhaps reconsider if this is your street car. it does get quite a bit louder (pebbles and ****) when you take it out. and it makes your car sound like a tin can - read "really cheap"- to anyone who doesn't understand.

i've taken it out of my cars (along with anything and everything that doesnt make it go, stop, or turn), and can vouch for the 28 lbs it saves, and also the fact that it is 28 lbs from the place where removing it is doing the least for you (low and in the middle).

on a dd, i'd leave it in.
