EK trunk leak question???
Okay i looked again and its not coming from the taillights. There is no water in them or even any condensation. When i checked out the trunk the only wet spots i saw were in the little pocket on the rear speaker cover and the bottom of the shocks where it sits in the pocket when the trunk is closed. Does anyone know where this leak is coming from?

yea its #5 some people just tighten there tail light screws and that works for them depending on how old you gaskets are but others just replace them. I went to walmart bought 4 pieces of foam board, traced out the old gasket on the foam board and no more leaks for me. Foam board at walmart is about .25 each.
i had the same problem i thought it was my tail light gasket but its where the bumper meets the car.. so you have to take out your bumper and you will see vents and above that are where the bumper meets the car. and there should be something similar looking as the tail light gasket. either silicone it up or replace it.

my 98 ek hatch leaks too! i went all out and gutted the interior, and my tail lights were leaking. i just drilled a small hole in the trunk right now cause mine was a swimming pool back there. but i also noticed that the air vents/ pockets located inside of the rear bumper below the tail lights were leaking too. you cant see these really from inside the car, if u lay down and look above the muffler you will see a scoop looking thing witha flap inside of it, make sure theres no dirt or anything holding it open. i need to go to honda and get all new seals for this crap
Yea my car used to do this too. To fix my problem, if you open the hatch and look at the upper indentation where the hatch door meets the frame of the car, you probably will see some rusted lines if you follow the body down along where the hatch rests when closed. I just sealed up these rust holes and my car doesnt take in water anymore!!
My EK used to leak in the back, my spare tire well would fill up with water.
It turned out to be the tail light gaskets, once they were replaced it didn't leak anymore. But it wasn't like I could tell it was the tail light gaskets, I have a full interior and it was wet on the carpet around that area and after changing the gaskets it stopped.

you gotta tighten the 8mm nuts on the tail lights.. there is a foam seperator. you put your hand flat on the outside of the taillight and push in, then tighten the nuts ( not too tight!!!) this compresses the foam and gets a better seal.
thats what i did and it works for me.

I took out, and sealed over, those 2 vents under the tail lights on my 97 hatch when I put in 2 fiberglass sub boxes. I've heard that they are there to relieve cabin pressure in case the airbags go off. does anyone know if that's true.
also my tail light gaskets used to leak but I siliconed them

well i still havent found my leak, i dont think its where the bumper meets the car because that spot is pretty low. The water gathers right on top of my SPEAKER COVERS! right in the lil pocket on top.
ive got the same damn problem, only mine isnt where the bumper meets the car. mine is up where the trunk lid and the hinge is...my car was wrecked from the rear, so it is screwed up a little bit becuase i guess the guys who repaired it didnt repair it well enough. bump for more solutions??

I got you beat on cheapness as long as you have some lying around... a bead of caulk does wonders on your old tail light gaskets...
