My guess is that its probably the battery or the battery posts are loose. Check the posts and look for this green or white buildup that looks like cauliflower. If you have that, clean it up good cause that thing is preventing your car from turning on. After you clean it, it should turn back on good. Be sure to tighten the battery posts and keep on checking it about once a month or sooner cause it will probably come back.

Doesn't make a single beep? As in?

Since you're in CA, I'm assuming you're getting better weather than me. Meaning your main relay is messed up. A warmed up bad main relay will start when the car & especially the interior is cool/cold. After almost any increase in temp, its solder joints don't make enough contact, fuel pump doesn't prime/work, and will just sit & crank.

A bad starter (contacts) will intermittantly not turn the motor over - just click on the solenoid. The short explaination is that they won't make contact when the armature is at a certain position, but will in another. When gets bumped (knock it with a broom handle), it moves the brushes just enough to make a circuit.

If its messing up your main relay's im guessing that the voltage drop on one of the wires that goes to the main relay is too much. You might wanna check how much the voltage drop is. The one that is off specs is probably making a bad connection or something else is taking away voltage.

Clean the hell out of your battery terminals. I had that problem with both of my sedans.
