Default ***********NEED HELP! 96-98 HB!!! *** THANX!

Hey, How you guys doing. I am driving a Civic Ex 01 coupe at the moment, i don't have much mods in it. DC headers, AEM intake, full cat Greddy exhaust, Lowered, and thats bout it. I live in cchicag, the other day a cop pulld me over and gave me a warning and a in hearing shiet for my muffler "4" Modified Exhaust" . sum crap bout noise ordinance. And for some reason , i've been targeted by alot of cops giving stupid parking tickets, and alot of crap. So i am gettin sick of gettin so many dam tickets. ( i hope my story is'nt boring you guys), so i dicided i want a Civic Hatchback, 96 or so. I found this pick. That i posted of realli nice Civic HB Si conversioned on ebay. It realli inspired me, I am a big fan of Honda JDM style, but unfortunately, i Dont have much knowledge of the tuning world.

Basically my questions are ? ;;;

Could i buy a 96-98 Civic HB with high miles? since i am swapping in a new engine and trans.???

Where can i get the Si Front Conversion kit for 96-98 Civic HB? or is it just lips? and lowered dowN? What do i Do to convert my front into a Si front?

What engine you guys recommending me to put in? considering my budget of $3000 for both swap job and engine trans,, ect. how are swap jobs anyways?

Can i keep the stock muffler in for the civic after the Swap? reason is becuase, I don't want my car to attract those dam cops.

Thanx alot dudes and gurlS!! If this will work out rite, I'm gettin the HB soon, then start with engine first, then wait till i save up enough for paint job. Ill post my project. thanx alto once again.

http://www.jdmcarboy.com/exterior-ek.htm you can try there for yuor front end conversion or go to the classifieds here on h-t and look there..
you will need to replace the hood/fenders/lights/bumper

how to do it.. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=790135 (they are many more like this)

as far as swaps it all about personal prefernce....gsr is prolly your best bet but would cost the most (excluding kswaps and r swaps)
then your other choice is b16 or b18b...both are great for differnt reasons and will fall well w/in your budget...keeping your stk exhaust is fine also

hope this helps...BTW there is a FAQ section at the top of this page that will answer most or all of your questions

maybe i read something wrong, but why not just get a 99-00 HB instead of getting a 96-98 and converting the front end?

prolly just cuz you'll save more money in the conversion then the extra cost of a newer year..and thats really the only diff between the two other then the heater control and some minor misc

don't leave the stock muffler. if you want quieter, just use a Apexi WS or WS Black

Chicago cops are asshoes.

nice car.. i would go with the b16 head and b18b block, heard it was a killer combo. as for si conversion i wouldnt i personally like the body...maybe a carbon fiber lip but its your car. also put a full exhaust on cause i can garentee you alreay have the cops attention so put one on there.

your best bet for the 99-00 conversion would be to buy the all the OEM parts separately.. you might spend a little more but you'll be alot happier in the long run.. nothing beats OEM!

With your exhaust ticket, couldn't you just go to court to challenge the ticket to see if your exhaust is loud enough though?

Other than that, why don't you just keep the 96-98 front end and add a sir lip, and with the limit of $3000 on the engine + swap, your best bet is to go with a b20b or 1st/2nd generation b16.

Yea, i want to keep the 96-98 front. but. the bumber and the head lights are different. THe headlgihts on a 99-00 or Si looks bigger, rounder sorta. and the bumper has a spot for the fog light installation. It looks alot mroe aggressive when you add lips to a 99-00 front bumper.

LooKI

A Civic 96-98

A civic 99-00

That 99-00 civic is an em1 though, most 99-00 civics will not come with that lip. Either way is nice though.
