Default rebuilt motor problem starting up

i just put in my rebuilt motor. i started the motor. it started but then it turned right off. i did it again gave it a some gas, and kept my hand on the throttle as soon as i let go it would shut off. also when i had gave it gas or rev it a little some fire shot out of the throttle body. i don't think the timing is off but i'm not sure. let me know what i'm doing wrong. i need to get my whip back on the road asap..

I would check timing, plug wires (maybe the wrong order), and dizzy maybe.

remember, firing order is 1-3-4-2

and if the engine is a D16y8 or a D16a6 then the timing mark on the head is at the 7 O'clock position and not parallel with the head.
