Default Short Ram Intake - Sound Difference? MPG Gain?

I want to get a simple ram intake and i have some questions. First will it sound any different under my hood? And secondly does it really improve mpg and hp?

adds a little sound, not drastic its not like a catback exhaust, and for mph gain you roughly gain about 2-5 hp and about 5-10 lbs of tork and the mpg is a little better as well but again nothing drastic

you are looking at mabey 1 hp tops, not much of anything gained from an intake but sound and a slight improvement in MPG

i would buy the 30 dollar ebay one and then spend 30 bucks on a K&N universal filter

No, that wouldn't be the same. I say if you do it, then do it right.. Take the plunge and buy a AEM short ram intake for a little more money. You will squeeze all the possible HP with a little mod with a brand like that.

... I wonder how a sticker saying "AEM" can give you so much HP.
How many HP will the K&N filter do more than the filter that comes with an ebay intake.

1hp tops..... i don't think so. Even if everything else is bone stock, there will be more gain than just 1hp.

im not speaking in a matter of HP when i choose a filter. i choose a filter based on filtering quality.

someone on here posted a comparison of filter quality, where ebay filters were the worst and k&n was one of the best.

the HP numbers will not be of any matter here cause you are going to get anywhere from 0 hp to 3 hp, but more realistically you will get about 1

It will give a slightly better grumble, but nothing incredibly signifigant.
I would go all out and get the cold air intake which is basically an extra pipe.
But make sure you get an air bypass valve to keep water out if you do.

it also depends on what engine you have, and also what kind of cam you have.

im sure, if you have a more agressive cam, mabey a P&P then the gains of a intake will probably be alot more, but still nothing major

My car must be a freak or something then, because with the intake it SCREAMED in the upper rpms. The first time I got on it with the girlfriend in the car, she said "HOLY **** YOUR CAR IS ******* LOUD".

Get whatever piping you like, just make sure you replace the shitty air filter with a K&N one. The only thing the AEM short ram is good for is the CARB #, if you live in Cali....

Yep I have a K&N CAI but am only using the Short Ram portion of it as I'm worried about water getting in it with the full CAI and in the upper RPM's it is loud as hell. My exhaust is loud and in the upper RPMs you can't even hear it over the intake anymore but it sounds decent. I put a air hat filter on my truck and it sounds like ****. The one in the Accord sounds decent to me.

If I didn't get a awesome deal on the K&N I would have gone with an eBay intake and K&N filter.

I have seen these also. I have seen filter comparisons saying it filters the worst and dyno comparisons saying it produces the worst. I had this conversation with a friend two days ago, actually. So yeah.

Anyway, SRI should not get you more MPG, it doesn't make any sense as to why it would, increasing air flow is not a good way to decrease gas used.

i agree...a intake will not net the biggest gains, but give it a little more credit..though i do not know how well our F series respond to a intake, but i;ve seen N/A motors gain as much as 10hp from a intake, and yes, that is to the wheels...but 1hp is pretty low, im sure with a quality set-up, u will get atleast maybe 3-5hp depending on conditions...but the whole name brand versus ebay, i personally think, anme brand will net u more in gains in most cases, but if ur not racing competively and dont need that .1 seconds to win, just get a ebay tube with a quality filter

I'm gettin a CAI with K&N filter from http://www.procarparts.com on Tuesday. Excided to get rid of the ugly stock unit and get some different sounds from my F22. I'll let you know, what I think about it.
I had a BBK CAI on my 5.0 Mustang before, loved the sound. Couldnt really hear it in the car, but if you stand outside and let some one rev your engine, it sounded niiiiiice.

Dude, there is no HP to be gained from a little mod like that. Dont waste your money on an AEM intake, get the ebay one if you want and put the K&N filter on it.

If I were you, I'd just stick with the ebay filter because the HP gains won't really be anything.

Which is exactly why the DIY short ram works perfectly fine and has pretty much the same performance.

Now if it was to be combined with a bigger TB etc. etc. to account for more air coming in then maybe you'd be looking at some significant gain.
