Default How does this idle sound to you guys? (VID inside)

I have a deposit on this car, and am planning on picking it up in 3 weeks or so. I asked the owner to supply me with a video of the car running since he is too far away for me to test drive.

It's boosted w/ RevHard turbo kit, hondata s200b tuned etc.

He says the car doesn't sound like this in real life, and blames the camera.

Just wondering what you guys thought.

Sounds like an exhaust leak to me. It also looks like it by looking at the black on the top of the head and valve cover.

Yea, I mentioned that too him. He says the exhaust mani bolts just need to be tightened a bit.

Makes all the blurps, ticks and rattles I have seem insignificant.

Good luck...

holy **** that thing is LOUD
sounds like a old Ford Model T.
Does it have a open wastegate? Last time I heard rattling like that was in my old GSX. I had a open wastegate, but it only made that sound when I was gunning it while driving. From what I hear it also made nice flames come out back . If that was the cause, to make it quieter I'd install a dump tube routed back into the downpipe.

The noise in that video has a "pulse" tone to it that sounds very much like an exhaust leak.

It's a stock motor, stock internals.

So ask him to "tighten them a bit" and shoot another video of the results.

The camera is going to have a crappy internal mic - not exactly something to draw conclusions from.

When he revs it up, I don't hear any major knocking, so that's good.

Sounds pretty normal to me. Those internal mics are only good for a small sound range, so it might be singling out the worst frequency.

There is definatley an exhaust leak there somewhere by the manifold indicated by all the carbon build-up, but I also think there might be a loose heatshield or something thats rattling and contributing to that noise.

Where's he located? Maybe someone on this board would be kind enough to stop by and take a look.

Doesn't make much sense to me..I wonder if he has a stripped head stud or bolt...Why else wouldn't he tighten it before shooting the vid duh. And there is so much black sut sp? on the head its not even funny. I personally would even look at a type r thats been boosted unless its full race with a sleeved block.

Look for small black (Carbon) streaks from where the exhaust is blowing out of the leak.
