Default Changed VSS but still code 17

I changed the vss and im still getting no speedo and a code 17. Do i need to change out the whole shaft/gear of the vss or just the top part? cuz i just changed out the top part. Im going on a road trip on saturday and need this fixed!!!!

alright i changed out the whole thing today, still throwing code 17??? someone please help!!!

.....Have u checked to see if your speedometer is still operating? I had the same issue a while back. I, too, changed the VSS but to no avail. Finally, I found out the speedo went dead when i replaced the unit in the instrument gauge cluster.

try checking the ground by the thermostat. If that doesn't help start diagnosing with helms and voltmeter.
