F22A1 Accord: Balance Shafts, Were is the mark at? Can someone show me a picture?
Ok i've worked on plenty of D-series engines, a few B series engine, even a POS mitsubishi with balance shafts, but for some reason i can't locate the mark on the block for the rear balance shaft to align with! I ended up just assuming that they would both be straight up since the front one was straight up. After driving around for a week like this i'm starting to think this was not right. I Looked at the diagram in the Hayes manual but still could not see it on my block! What kind of damage have i done to my engine driving it for a week like this? I notice the engine has a steady climbing vibration while driving. i have not been reving past 4 grand(it's an auto) , only back and forth to work, has it been long enough to do major damage to my bearings or anything? I'm gonna look for the marks again this weekend but does anyone have diagram they can show me?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The balance shafts only serve to make you more comfortable. Having one 180 out won't make a difference as far as damage but it will cause vibration. but as far as the marks I don't know.
Edited for clarity.

right but don't the shafts have counterweights on them? if so wouldn't their be all sorts of vibration if on of the weights is flying in on direction and the other is in a completely differnet spot and out of tune with the rest of the engine? wouldn't that cause a vibration or what am i missing?

I don't know where the marks are either, but it would likely cause some vibration. It's usually not noticable, though. If all else fails, just take off the belt, it might soften the vibration. I didn't have a balance shaft in my Accord, and couldn't even tell.
Ok So i'm gonna just take it out since i see no real reason for it to be their other than take up 45min of my time tryin to get it right. It's not a bad vibration but it's a consistant vibration that steadily increases which i'm assuming is due to the mis-alignment. I'll get-er-done this weekend and report if it fixed the vibration. otherwise i'll start lookin elsewere for a vibration. The car didn't do this beforehand so i'm willin to bet it's a problem.
Thanks

the mark is on the shaft not the pully. Look at the shaft from up top, behind the pully. You will see a mark on the stationary point of the shaft, and a mark on the rotating part of the shaft when you rotate the pully, line them up with the engine at tdc.
i dont think there is a mark on the pulley for the rear balance shaft..
remove the 12mm (if i remember correctley) and stick an appropriate sized allen wrench down the hole, there is a hole in the balance shaft itself and that will hold it in position..

Thanks alot Accord-pro! Great link! just what i needed!
Wow, I read through that whole page and printed it for reference so i can fix it tonight. I don't think i was even close with my mark now that i read that page. I didn't know the rear shaft was 3.1 ratio, i just took the mark and faced them both(front and rear) up. i tried to get a extension into the service hole and get it to lock into place but didn't know about the ratio thing.
And now as i was driving to work today i went to pass someone and my engine downshifted into like 2nd or whatever and my engine jumped to 6K......VIBRATION HELL! the engine felt like it was litterally gonna explode it was vibrating so bad. If this is here for riders comfort then surely this has to be the cause.
Edited: cause i think my brain is fried,
